Posted on: Major County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Major/10428 Surname: Masonhall, Doan, Doane ------------------------- Thanks, Jim. I would definitely be interested in more information re: Plymouth (exact location, highest population, names of families who settled there, etc.). Also would like to see the part of Major County history, Volume One, that includes information on Benjamin Grant Doan and his wife, Rebecca Jane Sample, both of whom are buried in Plymouth Cemetery near their granddaughter Edna, daughter of Addie Doan and Albert Masonhall, my paternal grandparents. Regarding the cemetery, do you know who is responsible for maintaining Plymouth Cemetery and how it is funded? Thanks again for your response. -Dave Masonhall Link: Dave Masonhall's Genealogy Website URL: <http://www.geocities.com/davemasonhall/>

Posted on: Major County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Major/10424 Surname: Keesee, McDougal, Suggs ------------------------- I am looking for the grave sites of Minnie Mae (Suggs) McDougal: born July 5, 1899 & died about 1932. Her twin sister (Maude Mulner (Suggs) Keesee: born July 5, 1899 & died March 5, 1974. Their mother Columbia G.(Williams) Suggs, preceded them in death. I believe they are buried close together in Forrest Cemetery in Major county, Oklahoma. I would like to find the caretaker or whoever keeps records and/or plot map (if any) of those buried there to confirm if indeed they are there and where. Also if they have a marker.
Hi all, I am hoping to contact a fellow researcher living in Major County in hopes of getting an obituary for my great uncle Alva Whitaker who died last Saturday (the 26th). I'm not sure which town he was living in, but I believe it was the Northwest corner of the county. If anybody is willing to snail mail or attach a scan of it to an email to me I would greatly appreciate it. Please email me for my snail mail address. Gratefully, Josiah Whitaker

Posted on: Major County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Major/10415 Surname: Masonhall, Doan, Doane ------------------------- Hi Dave: Plymouth is only a memory now, and most who remembered are dead and gone. No evidence of the townsite exists. we are doing Major Co. History, vol two and have an interest in such things as family histories and of places in the county, especially when the area was first settled. All of that family I know and heard of spelled the name Doane. Harriet still lives on the Harry Doane place, near the old Plymouth townsite. We have the story of B.G. Doane in major Co., History, vol one. That was Edna's father. Are you aware of that family report? Let me know if you want to pursue Plymouth. As I run across data, and I frequently do in my research, I can kick it over to you. Good luck on your research, Jim Wilkinson

Kathleen, Very well put. I think that many of the world's problems could be solved if we approached them from a wider, more global perspective. Thanks. Dear List Members, Many of you may already know about the "Historical Maps of the United States" site located at http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/histus.html But I just found it and it is wonderful. I have spent the last few hours going through some of the maps and it helped me so much to understand some of the strange migration patterns of my ancestors. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend. Dear List Members, Remember as you think about posting a message to the list regarding Memorial Day, that some of our members are not from the United States. We have members from England, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Ireland and Australia, just to name a few. Please keep this in mind as you send your messages regarding honoring those of our ancestors who fought in wars, served in the military and gave their lives for our beliefs and for the freedoms we hold dear. Our members from other countries also have ancestors who fought, and gave their lives for the beliefs and for the freedoms of their country. We in the genealogical community need to continue to remember that we are a world wide family which is formed from those of many nations, cultures, beliefs and history. This Country was built by those who migrated here from lands around the world. Their history is a part of us as our history is a part of them. I ask you to remember all those who have given their lives in military service world wide this weekend and please show the respect due to each of our members, no matter where they are from or what country they or their ancestors fought for. I appreciate each of you. Have a save weekend. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
It seems as if the latest virus problem has calmed down, but it would only take one or two of you opening an attachment with a virus to set it off again. It is not over, but it has calmed down. Just this morning I received another on - and did as I suggest you do DELETED IT. Please remember: DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT unless you know 100% what it is and who is from and have run a virus scan on it. I don't care how inviting the subject line is, "homepage", "Read this", "The Docs you ask for", etc. . Also please remember that this virus is not being spread via Rootsweb, but is being spread via attachments that are being sent out by rootsweb members. If you want additional information on what a virus is go to http://ca.com/virusinfo/faq.htm it is an informative site. If you don't have a good Virus Scan, I use Norton Anti virus, you need to get one that you trust and fast. If you are not sure what kind to get, you might want to join the virus discussion list to get additional information on the different programs. VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Again, I appreciate your support as we have gone through the last month or so fighting this problem. I also appreciated your willingness to do all that is necessary to help me fight the problem. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Hello, I received word yesterday that an old friend died in Brownsboro, AL. She will be buried in Fairview/ where she grew up. I believe that Henniger-Allen Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. I would like very much to have her obituary and am asking that anyone with access to Fairview or Enid newspapers to look this up for me. Her name was Elzada (Patterson) Summerville. Thank you so much. Phyllis Wilson Carpenter
