The county seat is Cherokee, OK. I don't know who their funeral homes were. You might check their website for a Genealogy Society. Between 1893 (when the Cherokee Strip opened for settlement) and 1907, Woods, Alfalfa, and Major Co. were all Woods Co. In Nov. 1907 when Oklahoma became a state, the 3 counties were formed from Woods Co. That is why they lived in different NAMED counties but probably never moved. Alfalfa Co. borders Major Co. to the north so I am not suprised as they lived in Major Co. close to the county line but were buried in Alfalfa Co. It is common. Pat Weaver, Major Co. My great grandmother died April 9, 1910 and is buried there alongside my great grandfather and other family members. Wrote for death certificate through the state of Oklahoma which they say they did not have. If anyone has any suggestions I would be open to any and all. Great Grandmother and Fathers name: Agnes (McNeil) Zimmerman, Jacob Luther Zimmerman, he died January 9, 1929 in Sedgwick County, Kansas and was taken back to Good Hope Cemetery for burial. Agnes died in Oklahoma and guessing that they lived in Major County according to census records of 1910, when she died. However before that they lived in Woods and Alfalfa Counties between 1876 and 1900. Thanks! Nancy Fry Stahl

Her name in the 1900 census was Ermina. Can anyone tell me anything about this family? I'd really appreciate your help! Jeanette in SC

    3. To all List Members, Due to the fact that I've had the Washita and Major County pages since March and that I can't find the time to work on them properly I have contacted Marti and Sharon notifying them that I am resigning both pages. This will open them up to someone to adopt that can improve them and do them justice. To all those who sent me information to post I have saved these letters and will pass them on to the new coordinator. If anyone is interested in adopting these pages and or Payne, Marshall or Okfuskee Counties which are also available contact myself, Marti or Sharon at http://www.okgenweb.com. Thank you all for all your ideas, suggestions, praise and encouragement. I've enjoyed the company and meeting new friends. I will stay on the mail list and will still do family look ups in the Wagon Tracks and answer any questions sent to me. I think I must need a copy of the 1977 book put out by the Major Co. Historical Society since that is the second bit of family information which has been sent to me from that publication. I'm glad you listed the sons, because I believe Victor is my cousin Eileena Sloan's spouse. The other names are all familiar to me also, from old family photo albums. I believe it is worth mention that the name is variously spelled ending with either 'm' or 'n'. I think it is also important to mention that an updated Major County History is now "in the works'; if anyone has a contribution they should contact the Major County Historical Society.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACI/373.1.1 Message Board Post: I do not currently have much on Laubham, but will write you separately to share my connections. This is my connection: Eileena Sloan of Ames OK md Unknown Laubham. Eileena probably same generation as my father who was b. 1918 and would assume Unknown Laubham the same. I believe they had a son named Roger who was born about 1951 in Ames area (my aunt Celia Sloan sent me a card in Feb 1956 in which she mentioned Roger's birthday was Feb 6). I have since learned that at the Ames Cemetery are buried David Conrad Laubham (1913-1980); Matilda (1886-1963); Conrad (1876 - 1955). As you mentioned, the name is rare and I think, but do not yet know if David is Eileena's husband. In that same cemetery I found Eileena's father and mother, W. Maurice Sloan and Cecilia J. (Graves) Sloan. I do know that the Sloan family and Graves family emigrated eastward from the New England area over several decades and that at least one of my direct ancestors married into a Pennsylvania Dutc! h family. For anyone who is searching for Graves, I have also learned more about the immediate family of Paul William Graves. I may be contacted directly at my email address or through this forum. For both names I am greatly indebted to the Major County Genealogical Society and OKMAJOR-L@rootsweb.com.
