    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACI/401 Message Board Post: I have an old picture of a group of unknown people at an outdoor sawmill. On the back in faint letters it looks like "Qrienta OT". I think the photo was probably taken around 1900-1920. Could that picture have been taken in Major Co.? John Poole

    1. [OKMAJOR] From List Mom Regarding:Influx Of New Online Genealogy Enthusiasts
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is that time of year again when we suddenly will have an influx of new online genealogy enthusiasts with their holiday gift computers that are usually newer and faster than what many of the rest of us have. For a great many of them, it will be their first time online. Some of them will make mistakes and some may (will) unintentionally do things and write things that may be irritating to us and against what we have set up as our list rules. Please take this into consideration in advance and be helpful to them. If things get out of hand, know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problems. Just remember, one of these new members might hold the clue you have been searching for. Let us not discourage them before they have a chance to learn how this works. I would like also to take this time to wish each of you and yours a wonderful and safe Holiday Season. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACI/400.1 Message Board Post: Gary Smith has asked about an "Albert L. Smith" who he states was in the 1920 census of Major County and then apparently disappeared. Let me share with you an "Albert L. Smith" in Major County, who is most likely NOT the man for whom you are searching, in case anyone would suggest so. In the Ames Cemetery, Major County, OK, is buried Albert L. Smith with a death date of 11/01/1921. However, his birth date, as per the online cemetery listing, is 2/20/1835. Since you report that your Albert L. Smith was born in 1875, this man buried in the Ames Cemetery cannot be "your" Albert L. Smith. The Albert L. Smith buried in the Ames Cemetery was the brother of my great grandfather, William Smith (1829-1912), and who is also buried in the Ames Cemetery, and they were both born in Pennsylvania. Consequenty, I know that there is no possibility that your "Albert L. Smith" is the one buried in the Ames Cemetery. Best wishes in your continued searching.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACI/400 Message Board Post: I am searching for any info about Albert L. Smith who was listed as living in Major county on the 1920 census. He was b. 21Jun1875 in Hall Co., GA. Was never married as far as the family new. Was supposed to be a very mean man whose own father, Alec Smith, wanted nothing to do with. Several of Albert's half-brothers went to find him after their father's death in 1928 and although they found records where he had bought and sold cattle in OKC they could find no trace of him. Family history has it that when they inquired around the city of Fairview about his whereabouts the locals became nervous and refused to talk with them. Is it possible that he was ran out of town or possibly killed in some altercation? It would not surprise those who knew him. Would appreciate any leads whether he was at fault or not.

    1. [OKMAJOR] A call for Archivists for the Oklahoma Archives
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. A call for Archivists for the Oklahoma Archives Hello everyone. The Oklahoma Archives is in need of people to fill the position of archivists for several counties, and for parts of the Indian Nations/Territories. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/okfiles.htm Why do the archives exist? The archives fill a roll in the preservation of genealogical information on the web in that all archives submissions are permanent, the information will not leave or otherwise be removed irregardless of who the archivist may be at the time. In some cases, the information in the archives will be a duplicate of what is on a county site, and in other cases, it will be information not on a county site but that can be linked to it. Why duplicate? First, the majority of information in the archives is in text format. This has stood the test of time in that it can be read no matter what system or browser is being used, and will be there no matter what advances take place in the future. Second, so far the text format has proven to be unaffected by virus’s that love to work on html formats. If you are interested in becoming an archivist for the Oklahoma Archives please e-mail bchada@tanet.net Bob Chada or tchada@mmcable.com Tammie Chada. If you are interested in becoming an archivist for the Indian Nation/Territories division of the Oklahoma Archives, please contact greyoaks@brightok.net Linda Simpson Also, if there is a particular county or area that you would like to work in but see that it is already taken, we will place you on a future contact list. Thanks. Bob and Tammie Chada, Oklahoma State Archivist Linda Simpson, Asst. State Archivist for the Indian Nations/Territory Division of the Oklahoma Archives.
