    1. [OKMAJOR] surname Roylance
    2. Lindacinok
    3. My name is Linda 'Honea' Carl. I am a descendant of John Roylance/or maybe Rylance born 1800 in England. thats all I know of him prior to marrying Martha Keing or Keeny on April 4, 1833 in Jackson County, Missouri. She was born 1810 in Tennessee. One son James was born 1841 in Mo and later married a Bertha with one son listed as Leroy. also one son listed as William T. born Sept 1, 1849 in Cass County, Missouri. Died July 23, 1924. William married Ponecy A. Goodwin on Aug 13, 1872 in Johnson County, Missouri. It seems many records in Missouri were lost with fires. they made their way to Ellsworth, Kansas and then to Ames, Oklahoma where they are both buried. John and Martha were my maternal GG grandparents and there lies my brick wall. Any Info??? Looking forward to this group :-) LindaCin Okemah, Oklahoma

    3. Jim & Marla, The Fairview City Library has a few Ames newspapers on microfilm - I'm not sure how many papers or the dates. The Oklahoma Historical Society has an excellent collection of state papers and I'm sure they would have Ames. According to Fred Dittmars (I'm sorry if the spelling is incorrect) of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society, you can access them at: http://www.ok-history.mus.ok.us/ Then click on Newspapers, then Index, then a list of counties will come up and click on Major Co. You should be able to see what newspapers are available for Major Co. Pat Weaver --- "J. M. 3. Pat and Marla, Marla, you asked about city directories in Ames, Oklahoma, 1900-1920, and Pat has answered that question and provided additional information. Two additional suggestions: 1. The 1906 Atlas of Woods County, Oklahoma Territory, includes the Ames area and shows land owners (of surrounding farms) of record at that time. It also shows a plat map of Ames, but no owners of individual lots. 2. An additional source for Ames "history" during that time was one newspaper, and perhaps there were two, I'm not sure. In any case, the name of one newspaper was the "Ames Enterprise", This newspaper contained news items, including the death of an infant sister (died January 20, 1905) of my dad, for whom we had very little prior information. Question, Pat, or other reader, do you know where any of these newspapers are available on microfilm? I did not record where I found this microfilm, but it may have been in the Oklahoma Historical Society collection of newspapers in Oklahoma City. 1. [OKMAJOR] Ames, Major Co., OK, history?
    2. J. M. Freed
    3. Pat, Thanks for the information below. I'll also be following through with a request for the updated Cemetery records book. To Pat, and anybody else who might know: I understand that the Ames community (Eastern Major County) was to publish a history some time during this past calendar year. Does anybody know if it was completed, and if so, how we might purchase a copy?
