Mrs. Bates was born July 27, 1928, in Addington, the daughter of R.B. and Bessie McLemore Franklin. She died Monday, November 18, 2002, at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Ardmore. Born and raised in Addington, Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband, Dennis of the home; a daughter, Delores "Dody" Altom of Duncan; a son, David Bates of Marlow; six grandchildren, Larry Ethridge, Carrie Caldwell, Terry McConnell and Jody Mitchell, Tiffany and Elisha Bates; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diana Hamman, and a grandson, Jimmy Ray Mitchell. Pallbearers were Larry Ethridge, Terry McConnell, Jody Mitchell, Pat Webb, Blackie Webb and Jimmy Evans. Interment was in the Addington Cemetery, under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home, Comanche.
