Carter" October 12, 1914-July 21, 2002 "O.J. was born in a two-room log house near Burneyville. He was the son of Onie J. and Dora Holland Carter. By the time he was eight years old he was going to the field picking cotton to help buy his school clothes and supplies. He finished the 12th grade at Burneyville and went to Southeastern College in Durant at the age of 19. While in college, he lost his dad and had to take over the farming to make a living for his mother and five siblings. He farmed a while and eventually quit and went to work in the oil fields. Later he worked for Waco Turner on what is now Falconhead Resort. He went to California in the late thirties to get a better job. In 1942 he returned to Oklahoma to take his mother and his two brothers, who were still at home, back to California with him. He provided for us all those years and we love him dearly for that. Although he had no children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephews. I will never forget him and what he did for us." His sister, Euna Jane White
