W.S. McMurtrey officiating. Mrs. Hughes was born October 19, 1970, in Garland, Texas, the daughter of Frederick Henry and JoAnna Morale Engelhardt. She died Monday, October 6, 2003, near Marietta. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and had been a resident of Love County for the past 12 years. She and Clayton Hughes were married in 1995 in Marietta. Mrs. Hughes loved the ocean, her family was very helpful to all who knew her. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Marietta. Survivors include her husband, Clayton Hughes of the home; two daughters, Destinee Loran Smeltzer and Jessica Aaron Hughes, both of the home; mother, Jo Sumpter of Marietta; father, Fred Engelhardt of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Anthony Hertzler, Sr. of Marietta; two sisters, Theresa Jo Taylor of Galveston, Texas and Penny Leigh Stewart of Marietta; grandmother, Roberta Morale of Rowlett, Texas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Mary Hughes of Marietta; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Tony Morale; brother, Adrian J. Engelhardt; aunt, Toni Smith; nephew, Baby Joe; and a cousin, Chris Cooper. Serving as pallbearers are Joe Forewood, Rick Ramos, Carl Stewart, Otis Tippit, Thomas Hayes and Anthony Lopez. Honorary bearers will be Nathan Clark, Cheyenne Ramos and Dee Cooper.
