    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Thompson Classification: Military Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xYB.2ACE/1784 Message Board Post: The special letter sheets for writing to men in the Army, Navy and Marines in foreign service, as a part of the micro-photographic letter plan have been received at the Marietta Post Office, and are now available to the public. The sheets, which fold and seal, requiring no envelope, are free to relatives and friends of the men in the service and three sheets per day are allowed to each applicant. The new device, known as the "V-Letter," has space for a message, the proper address form and requires a three cent stamp for transmission. Sent to an Army post office, as for instance to the New York office, the letter is to be photographed on a strip of film and the film transmitted by air or ship or other means to the address of the soldier to whom sent. There it is enlarged to a readable size and a photograph provided the soldier. Application blanks for bicycles are now in the hands of local war and rationing boards, and eligible persons can receive certificates for purchases, J.B. Thompson, chariman of the local rationing boards, said today. Bicycles were released for sale July 9, but local boards could not issue purchase certificates because application blanks were not available.
