Ken Cole, minister, officiating. Mr. Burkhart was born December 7, 1924, at Gainesville and died May 21, 1999, in the Texoma Medical Center. He was the son of Howard and Ruth Porter Burkhart. A retired Dallas Police Officer, Mr. Burkhart was also a retired cattle rancher and a veteran of the 8th Air Force. Mr. Burkhart and the former Viva Jo Hammer were married November 12, 1948, in Temple, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Viva Jo Burkhart of Gainesville; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Kitty Burkhart of Thackerville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lana and Bill Mills of Dallas, Texas, and Margaret and Bill McPherson of Gainesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Darlene Burkhart of Gainesville; a sister, Patricia Burkhart of Thackerville; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives. Mr. Burkhart was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruth Burkhart; and a brother, Afton Elwood Burkhart. Clement-Keel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with interment in Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Burkhart, Greg Burkhart, Steve Burkhart, Tommy Burkhart, Jeff Burkhart and Patrick Rosenberg.
