A traditional church ceremony, attended by family and close friends, was held July 11 at the First Freewill Baptist Church, McAlester. The bride is the daughter of Frank Allsup and Laura Sheppard of McAlester. She was escorted to the altar by her step-father, Jim Sheppard, also of McAlester. The groom is the son of Joseph and Betty Tipton of McAlester. Grandparents of the groom are Clark and Eloise Tiipton of Marietta and Kenneth and Jean Parker of Ardmore. The couple was married before a brass arch decorated with peach and white roses accented with peach and mint green satin ribbons. The arch was flanked on both sides by arrangements of pink carnations and daisies high-lighted with baby's breath. Church pews were decorated with peach and mint green bows. A selection of music was played as guests were seated. During the ceremony, Brett Lee, McAlester, sang "Truly." The bride chose a white tea-length dress. Her V-shaped headpiece was formed of three strands of pearls with white net fanning out at the back. Pearls and flowers adorned the back of the headpiece. She carried a bouquet of peach and white roses with peach and mint green streamers forming a cascade. Miss Angel Wilson, McAlester, aunt of the bride, was maid of honor. Heather Craig, Ada, was bridesmaid. They each wore peach colored tea-length dresses and carried a smaller version of the bride's bouquet. A cousin of the bride, Bonita Allen, was flower girl. Brian Tipton, Norman, was his brother's best man. John Bond, McAlester, served as groomsman. Attending the guest book was Bonnie Sheppard, McAlester. A reception was held in the Sunset Room at the Days Inn. The three tiered white heart-shaped wedding cake was decorated with peach flowers. It was topped by a traditional bride and groom. The groom's cake was a double heart-shaped chocolate cake. The table was covered with a white cloth decorated with peach satin bows. Carol McClaughrey, Beth McClaughrey, and Angie Joyce served at the reception. Peach birdseed bags tied with matching ribbon were distributed to the guests. After a wedding trip to Fountainhead State Park, the couple is at home in Norman. Source: Marietta Monitor, Love County, July 31, 1992, page 6. Courtesy of Ray and Elreeta Weathers.
