Larry Nicholson and Rev. Chief Warden officiating. Mrs. Lemons was born October 4, 1918, at Burneyville and died March 12, 1995, in the Denton Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of John H. and Effie Carter Fitts. Mrs. Lemons worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone and General Telephone Company in excess of 50 years. She made her home in Denton from 1974 until 1994 and then returned to Gainesville. While living in Denton she was a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club and served as a Pink Lady at the Denton hospitals. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She and Jack Lemons were married in 1937. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Sue Lemons of Whitesboro, Texas, and Johnny and Cathey Lemons of Gainesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Wayne Buchner of Broken Arrow; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Many cousins, nieces and nephews survive on both the Fitts and Carter side of the family. Mrs. Lemons was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Lemons; and a brother, McLooney Fitts. Interment in Fairview Cemetery was under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Assisting as pallbearers were Jack Holt, Joe McElreath, Loyd Dillbeck, Al Hoedebeck, Jim White and Albert Hammons. Source: Marietta Monitor, Love County, March 17, 1995, page 4.
