Ronnie Harris and the Rev. Steve Gardner officiating. Mr. Weathers was born August 12, 1938, in Marietta, the son of Richard Omer and Martha Mandy Rowland Weathers. He died Sunday, January 12, 2003, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore. Mr. Weathers had made his home in St. Louis, Missouri, before moving to Marietta in 1990. He served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1958 through June 1961 and was stationed near the Canadian border. A retired minister, Mr. Weathers was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta and had taught Sunday School there since returning to Marietta in 1990. He was currently teaching a study on Baptist doctrine at the church. Mr. Weathers received a bachelor's degree from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, in 1963, and a master's degree in divinity from Southwestern Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, in 1968. He was ordained to the gospel ministry on October 14, 1962, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Abilene. Survivors include his mother, Martha Weathers of the home; a daughter, Melanie DeLaine Gaston; a brother, Ray Rowland Weathers of Hamilton, Texas; and a granddaughter, Tasha Nicole Gaston. Mr. Weathers was preceded in death by his father, Richard O. Weathers; a son, Breck Allen Weathers; and a sister, Virginia Izella Cowley. Pallbearers were Gerry Cowley, Bobby Cowley, Richard Weathers, G.W. Flanagan, Dennis Lopez and Dale Harvey. Honorary pallbearer was Ray Weathers. Interment was held in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta. Source: Marietta Monitor, Love County, January 17, 2003, page 4.
