Tim Emmons and Rev. Larry Fincher officiating. Born April 7, 1907, at Burneyville, Indian Territory, Mrs. Higgs died February 15, 1995, at her home in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was the daughter of Jim and Maggie Gipson Richmond. Mrs. Higgs had lived in Wichita Falls for two years. She was raised in Love County and had made her home in California for 40 years. A retired school teacher, she taught for 40 years in Oklahoma and California school systems. Mrs. Higgs was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Eastside Baptist Church. She married W.E. Higgs in Marietta on May 13, 1985, and he died on February 16, 1995. Survivors include two foster sons, Terry Knight and George Jackson of Washington; two step-daughters, Sonya Largen and Sylvia Rounsaville of Wichita Falls; two nephews, Arnold Richmond and Charles Richmond of California; a niece, Jenny Bostwick of California; an uncle and aunt, Raymond and Dovie Gipson of Marietta; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hank Thompson; and a brother, Horace Richmond. Interment was in the Burneyville Cemetery with Deacons of the Eastside Baptist Church assisting as pallbearers. Services were directed by the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home.
