Mr. Barksdale owned and operated Jay's Vending in Ardmore, with prior locations in Oklahoma City, Enid and Ada. Survivors include his wife, Debi of the home; a stepson, Neal Caviness of Oklahoma City; a stepdaughter, Samantha Caviness of Ardmore; his mother, Shirley Barksdale of San Francisco, California; two brothers, Gregg Barksdale of South Lake Tahoe, California, and Scott Barksdale of Sandpoint, Idaho; his mother-in-law, Wanda Williams of Marietta; and his grandfather, John Barksdale of Chico, California. Mrs. Hilliard was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ in Gainesville, Texas, and was employed at the Gainesville Memorial Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Ray Hilliard of Marietta; two daughters, Donna Rodgers of Keller, Texas, and Sandy Jackson of Denton, Texas; a son, Robert Hilliard of Emmett, Idaho; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Dwain Martindale of Burleson, Texas and Roy Lee Martindale of Joshua, Texas; and two sisters, LaVerne Weaver of Dallas and Sharan Acker of Houston. Mrs. Hilliard was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Thadeous Ray Martindale. Mrs. Thacker was a member of Marietta's First United Methodist Church. Looking for any information on the Robeson/Robinson families that lived in this area in the 1920's and 1930's. Ellen lived with son Charles W. on the 1920 census. He was not related to me or my MOORE clan. There was another branch of MOORE that lived in the area that I remember; Jane MOORE (don't know her maiden name or husband's name) was a school teacher for about 2 years at Burneyville in the late 1950s and she had red hair. His wife is my deceased father's older sister, Aunt Katherine. Thank you, Martha, for so many obits. They are of people I knew as a child when growing up in Burneyville, Love County, Oklahoma and others who lived in Hicksville, Leon, Jimtown, and other places my friends lived and were schooled in Burneyville until its final year in 1958. I've recently begun wondering how and when Burney township (later named Burneyville) was established. Was it originally Fitztown?? Can anybody give me its history?? I recall the First Baptist Church and across the street on the corner is where the KINGSTON family lived. We lived behind them toward my grandpa M. M. Moore's farm near Red River. The last house in Burneyville we lived in still stands and is well cared for as of my visit there May 2002. In addition to the FBC was a post office, general store, barber shop, a concrete slab where the skating rink used to be and three little one bedroom houses across from the old FITZ hotel where Old Jim Fitz lived in the 1950's. Turning the corner to the left from the old hotel and on the right was where Dr. Looney lived and across and down the road was where his son lived. They had one daughter, Becky. There were no other houses on the road up to the school. It was Burneyville school that was first to twelvth grade until 1957 and became an integrated 1st-8th grade in 1958, the year I was the 8th grade salutatorian. Some of the people who went to school with me were Gary and Joel Hicks, Margaret Toles (valedictorian), Redmond, Harrill, Sloan, Shankles, and several others. The teachers lived in houses on the schoolgrounds, the lunchroom was a separate building and next to it was the gymnasium. Behind both sides of that were the "restrooms". The girls' restroom (outhouse) had four seats (holes). The baseball field was next to the road in front/beside the school and across the road on the corner was a little store where you could buy something for lunch if you had the money, otherwise you paid fifteen cents for lunch at the cafeteria. So many memories of Burneyville. Other people I recall knowing were the BARRICK (Frank was the county commissioner), IDELL (Cecil/Dutch was song leader at the First Bapt Ch), THOMPSON (Joe was a Marietta Judge and brother of my maternal Aunt Nancy's husband), BONE (Frankie, a soprano, and my mother sang duets in church), and TOWNSEND (Paul had a daughter named Kay) families.

Mrs. Moore was born October 12, 1923, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Dr. George Herbert Beavers, Jr. and Margaretta R. Graham Beavers. She was also a grand-daughter of Pearl Freeman Graham and Dr. E.F. Graham, a founding banker in the early years of Love County. She died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Moore was raised in Fort Worth, Texas. As a student, she had many educational experiences. She attended Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, the Ashley Hall School in Charleston, South Carolina, and then studied at National Park College, Forest Glen, Maryland, where she was an honor student. Her studies at the University of Texas were interrupted by World War II. Following the war, she completed her bachelor of science degree at Oklahoma A&M. Later she earned a Masters in Teaching degree from Southeastern State College, Durant. During her career she taught in the Burneyville, Leon and Marietta school systems. She married James Meriwether Moore on April 23, 1944, in Austin, Texas. The couple moved to Love County and farmed at Burneyville for about ten years, before moving the family to Marietta in 1957. A devoted mother and educator, Mrs. Moore initiated Red Cross swimming lessons for the children of Marietta and also introduced Latin into the school curriculum. She was known as a fair teacher, who challenged her students to reach their full potential. The Moore family attended the Mahota Memorial Presbyterian Church, Marietta. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, James C. "Mike" and Patsy Moore of Colleyville, Texas, George Jefferson "Jeff" Moore of Columbia, Missouri and Herbert M. and Melinda Moore of Marietta; one daughter and son-in-law, margaretta M. and L.J. Bourgeois III of Charlottesville, Virginia; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaretta Elizabeth Beavers and W.J. bond of Fort Worth; eleven grandchildren, who gave her many happy memories, Madeleine B. Santiago and husband, Patcho, Marie Bourgeois, John Bourgeois, Elisa Moore, Mike Moore, Kate Moore, Sarah Moore, Kirk Blonien, Audrey B. Sundet and her husband, Brett, Mitch Moore and Tyler Moore. Preceding her in death were her parents and also her husband, Jimmy Moore on January 7, 1976. She also enjoyed many happy years with her companion, Jim Binford, who also preceded her in death on February 20, 2002. Honorary pallbearers were James C. Moore, G. Jeff Moore, Herbert M. Moore, L.J.
