She died Sunday, November 17, 2002, in Healdton Municipal Hospital, Healdton. Mrs. Westervelt grew up in Love County and returned to this area 15 years ago to make her home. She and Cecil F. Westervelt were married December 1, 1981, in Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Westervelt was a homemaker and also worked in the mobile home business as a cabinet builder. She spent much of her spare time doing volunteer work at the Chickasaw Senior Citizens Center in Ardmore. Mrs. Westervelt was a member of the Church Of The Tabernacle in Marietta. Survivors include her husband, Cecil F. Westervelt of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Christopher J. and Jolela Westervelt of Ardmore and David A. Westervelt of Marietta; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa A. and Jay A. Lester of Ardmore; and nine grandchildren, Christian A. Westervelt, Cail J. Westervelt, Alycia R. Anderson, Kaitlyn R. Anderson, Richard J. Anderson, Chelsi R. Anderson, Jaymes D. Lester, Kalub S. Lester and Billye J. Lester. Mrs. Westervelt was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Fred D. Sanders. Serving as pallbearers were Greg Serluco, Gary Westervelt, Jay Lester, Jesse Speer, Randy Liddell, Tom Hall, Jim Gaston and Colby Ginn. Mitchell were married October 18, 1958, at the Alvin Hilton residence in Marietta. Mrs. Mitchell attended the Enville Community Church. Survivors include her husband, Melvin T. Mitchell of the home; a son, Todd S. Mitchell of Stringtown; five brothers, Calvin Stewart of Oklahoma City, Ray Stewart of Parlier, California, J.T. Stewart of Haywood, California, Bill Stewart of Ardmore and Wendyl Stewart of Lebanon; a sister, Marcella Renick of Marietta; a granddaughter, Chellsey Lott of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Melissa Ann Mitchell on January 24, 1967; a sister, Ann Lane; and two brothers, Donald Stewart and Ralph Stewart. By the time he was eight years old he was going to the field picking cotton to help buy his school clothes and supplies. He finished the 12th grade at Burneyville and went to Southeastern College in Durant at the age of 19. While in college, he lost his dad and had to take over the farming to make a living for his mother and five siblings. He farmed a while and eventually quit and went to work in the oil fields. Later he worked for Waco Turner on what is now Falconhead Resort. He went to California in the late thirties to get a better job. In 1942 he returned to Oklahoma to take his mother and his two brothers, who were still at home, back to California with him. He provided for us all those years and we love him dearly for that. A resident of Love County all of her life, Mrs. Cochran was a homemaker and also was employed as a clerk at McGehee's Variety and Harris' Variety in Marietta. She and Roy Lee Cochran were married April 19, 1930, at the First Christian Church in Marietta and he preceded her in death on May 6, 1990. An active member of Marietta's First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Mrs. Cochran planted and cared for the flowers at the church. She also volunteered at the Texoma Christian Camp. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. and Alice Cochran of Marietta; a daughter and son-in-law, June and Frank Mitchell of Marietta; two brothers, Melvin Wilson of Pryor and Howard Wilson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Chris Cochran, Carl Cochran, Curtis Cochran, Cathy Gollan, Paul Mitchell and Terry Mitchell; 10 great-grand-children and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cochran was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene Billingsley and Violet Batson; and four brothers, Gerld Wilson, Dell Wilson, David Wilson and Em Wilson. Pallbearers will be Jack Drennan Jr., Frank Lambert, Sam Knight, Harold Wegner, Rick Brannan and Steven Burrage. Dillard, a former Marietta resident, now living in Waskom, Texas, received the award recently at the Farm Bureau's annual convention. He has written an agriculture and rural interest column for The Times, a daily newspaper in Shreveport, Louisiana, for 43 years. Dillard has missed only one column since he began writing as farm director and farm reporter for KWKH in 1959. Before entering the media profession, he was a county agriculture agent for Cooke and Gregg counties in Texas. "This is the first time and probably the one time that an award has singled out the newspaper column," Dillard said. "It humbled me and thrilled me." Dillard is the son of Mrs. Jack Dillard Sr. and the late Jack Dillard Sr. Born and raised in Marietta, he is a graduate of Marietta High School and Oklahoma State University. He received the educational doctorate degree from the School of Education and was hooded by his advisor and chair of his research committee, Dr. Adrienne Hyle. White graduated as valedictorian from Meadowbrook High School near Marietta in May 1958. He graduated summa cum laude from Central State College in Edmond in July 1961, receiving a bachelor of arts and English education degree. White was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He began teaching at Sapulpa High School shortly before his 21st birthday. White received a master of teaching degree with a major in art from Central State College in June 1964 and was again summa cum laude. He also served as a teaching fellow at Central State College from August 1963 to June 1964. Employed by the Department of Defense Overseas Education System in August 1964 to the present, White worked in Labrador, Germany, Cuba and England. The son of Alamito White and the late Lee White, family members attending the ceremony at Gallagher-Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater were his mother, Alamito; sister, Janie Horton; brother, Harodl White; wife, Joan; and daughter, Jennifer Odom of Maryland. Major Michael F. Rothermel, Commander of the 410 AEW Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron of the U.S. Air Force, sent a letter to Natalie Long about her husband's work in a classified site in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the letter, Maj. Rothermel encourages the family and assures them of his expectations to bring their soldier home safely. SSgt. Long, who attended Thackerville School, and graduated from high school at Bonham, Texas, has been in the military a number of years. He reenlisted for his third time early this year. He comes from a military family and his brother, Captain Jeffrey S. Long, serves in the Army. Long is the son of Larry Long of Thackerville and Linda Long of Dodge City, Texas. She is now deployed with Operation Iraqi Freedom in Qatar. SSgt. Sullivan and her husband, Staff Sergeant Shane Sullivan, are stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. She is the daughter of Pat and Jerry Balch, Marietta, and Jay Clark, Florida, and the granddaughter of Alvin and Vera Hilton, Marietta.
