Smith, son of Debbie Smith of Weatherford and Larry W. Smith of Burneyville, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, in San Diego, California. The recruit successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Smith and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a.m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition tot he physical conditioning program, Smith spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training. He and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps' core values - honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct. Smith and fellow recruits ended the training phase with "The Crucible," a 54-hour team effort, problem solving evolution which culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and were addressed as "Marines" for the first time since boot camp began. He retired from the General Motors Plant in Arlington, Texas, in 1983. Mr. Forshaw was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ, Men's Golf Association at the Graham Country Club, VFW Post 8567, and a lifetime member of the Auto Workers Union. Mrs. Knapp was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ardmore. She and her husband spent much of their time assisting elderly individuals in the church congregation. Mrs. Johnson attended Lone Grove Public School. She worked at Weber Aircraft in Gainesville, and retired after 19 years. Mrs. Johnson was a lifetime auxiliary member of VFW 1922 in Gainesville. She was of the Methodist faith. Tony Caro officiating. Mr. Robertson was born December 21, 1915, in Gainesville, Texas, the son of Arch and Mamie M. King Robertson. He died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Southwestern Medical Center, Lawton. A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Robertson was a rancher and also worked at Robertson's Hams for several years before retiring. He and Miriam Mobley were married November 14, 1936, in Marietta. Mr. Robertson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marietta. Survivors include his wife, Miriam Robertson of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Denny Robertson of the home and Archie and Jane Robertson of Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Gail Varner of Walters and Becky and Hank Kittrell of Ardmore; two brothers, V.B. "Tup" Robertson and Gene Robertson of Marietta; a sister, Mary Beeler of Marietta; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bill Robertson, John Robertson, Archie Robertson, Pope Robertson and infant Alvin Robertson; and a sister, Dorothy London. Serving as pallbearers were four grandsons, Pat Varner, Tim Robertson, Terry Taylor and Jeff Condiff, along with Kent Shankles and Hank Kittrell. Fenn, son of Gary and Jennifer Fenn of Marietta, recently received his second Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for three years of outstanding service at U.S. Naval Station Rota, Spain. While serving as an aviation fuels branch assistant supervisor, Fenn used his administrative skills to manage 11 military and 11 local nationals. He also ensured the safe and efficient issuance of more than 75 million gallons of aviation fuel and sustained his command's mission readiness through various maintenance jobs.
