Brian Swiggart officiating. Born June 22, 1909, in Sanger, Texas, Mr. Long died April 20, 1995, in a Temple hospital. He was the son of Samuel C. and Louisa Elizabeth Long. His father, Sam, was the Sheriff of Marietta for many years. As a young boy, he was baptized in a creek at Shady Dale by the Rev. Walter P. Rowland. Mr. Long was an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired with 30 years of service. He had also worked in the Oklahoma and Texas oil fields as a driller. Mr. Long married Bessie Hewitt in 1950. A former resident of Somerville, Texas, he had lived in Temple for 35 years. Mr. Long was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Lodge. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bessie Long of Temple; a son, Aubry F. Long of Oklahoma City; a sister, Johnnie Ruth Milsap of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters. Services were under the direction of Sheffield Funeral Home, Temple. She taught in Healdton for several years prior to assisting her husband, Harold, in running the Red River Chili Company. Mr. and Mrs. Potts operated the Red River Chili Company in Healdton from 1947 until 1966. Mrs. Potts is currently residing at the Heritage Manor Home, 112 Ruthlynn Drive, Room 207B, Longview, Texas 75605. Also attending the birthday celebration were S.J. and Kathryn Tipton of Longview; Verdell and Doris Chatham of Ratliff City; and Barbara Loving, Preston Loving, Janet Loving and Dyana and Blayke Hunziker of Wilson. Mr. Cavnar was born November 29, 1921, in Purcell, the son of J.T. and Nora Skaggs Cavnar, and died March 2, 1995, in Pauls Valley. He married Hellen Tucker on July 3, 1947, in Purcell. Mr. Cavnar served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Front during World War II at Guadalcanal in the Philippines and the Solomon Islands. He worked at the Naval Base in Norman before attending Oklahoma A & M, graduating in 1951 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Mr. Cavnar was employed by the Department of Agriculture, serving as 4-H Agent in Coal and Beckham Counties. He then served as Extension Director in Love County for nine years before serving 18 years as the Garvin County Extension Director until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Cavnar was a longtime member of the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association, Garvin County Swine Breeders Association, Pauls Valley Kiwanis Club and served on the Oklahoma State Fair Board. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hellen Cavnar and daughter Tarran of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kenna and Nathan Dills and granddaughter Kylie of Edmond and grandson Riley of Norman; son, Jeff Cavnar of Ada and grand-children, J.T. and Megan Cavnar of Iowa; three brothers, James Cavnar of Prattville, Alabama, Willis Cavnar of Stigler and Ed Cavnar of Ardmore; five sisters, Theo Mayo and Frances Bragg of Midwest City, Juanita Woods of Wayne, Wanda Barnes of Waukomis and Shirley Jones of Pauls Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Cavnar was preceded in death by his father, J.T.; mother, Nora; and a son, Steven Scott Cavnar. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Pauls Valley National Bank for funding of the Leo K. Cavnar Memorial Scholarship that will be awarded to a Garvin County High School student seeking to attend Oklahoma State University in an agriculture related field. He served in the Army during World War II, participating in the Invasion of Normandy and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Butler was employed as a contract pumper, was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Marietta, and an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Butler of the home; a son, Glen Butler of Spring, Texas; three daughters, Gale Holt and Coletha Porter of Marietta and Shelia Idell of Ardmore; a brother, Sidney Butler of Marsden; two sisters, Lois Holley and Velma Trent of Ardmore; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Butler was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Interment in the Crinerville Cemetery was under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Rayford Renick, Jr. of Waskom, Texas; a brother, J.V. Grice of Marietta; two grandchildren, Kristi Harris and Renee Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Kayce Williams. Mrs. Talbert was preceded in death by her husband on February 13, 1969; a sister, Beulah Harris; and two brothers, George Grice and Earl Grice. Mrs. Lemons was a member of the Mahota Memorial Presbyterian Church of Marietta for 35 years. Survivors include her husband, Von Dee Lemons of the home at Enville; her mother, Mrs. Inez Stewart of Enville; two sons, Terry Keith Lemons and Timothy Brent Lemons of Marlow; brother, Jerry Stewart of Marietta; sister, Geraldine Bean of Wynnewood; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Lemons was preceded in death by her father, Bob Stewart, on October 18, 1992. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. He married Kay Lynn Haney on July 16, 1987, in Wichita Falls. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kay Hadley of Wichita Falls; five daughters, Pamela Matthews of Oklahoma City, Valerie Lynn Fielding of Edmond, Victoria Ann Dial of Atoka, Elizabeth Ray Lambert of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Alice Kay Hadley of Wichita Falls; a son, David Lewis Hadley of Wichita Falls; and 10 grandchildren. Byford, 70, were at 2:00 p.m. February 18 in the Morehead-Goetz Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche with Ron Stough officiating. Mrs. Byford was born July 26, 1924, in Walters, the daughter of Ernest and Annie Leona Campbell Curry, and died February 15, 1995, in Waldron, Arkansas. She graduated from Burneyville High School in 1942 and married Troy Willis Byford in Henrietta, Texas, on June 18, 1949. A homemaker, Mrs. Byford was a nursing home employee and a member of Countryside Baptist Church in Comanche. She is survived by a son, Lindell Byford of Bellaire, Texas; two daughters, Virginia Reed of Waldron and Patricia Thomas of Quinlan, Texas; a brother, Harold Curry of Duncan; a sister, Mary Jean Lewis of Gainesville, Texas; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born May 3, 1925, at Leon, Mr. Westmoreland died February 24, 1995, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta. He was the son of Vernie R. and Maud Ellen Nelson Westmoreland. Mr. Westmoreland was one of 11 children, seven boys and four girls. A resident of this area since 1942, he was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Westmoreland served in the Army in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II and retired as a boiler maker in 1976. Mr. Westmoreland and Cherry Murphy were married March 16, 1952, in Marietta, and she preceded him in death on December 8, 1993. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Michael Jay and Dr. Loralu Raburn Westmoreland of Amarillo, Texas, and Lyndal Ray and Jerri Westmoreland of El Reno; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Sue and David Brown of Marietta and Sandee and Larry Nixon of Durant; two sisters, Jo Arthur of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Marie Langley of Kingfisher; and three grandchildren, T. Jay Woodall of Marietta and Manette Ch'von Nixon and Lucretia D'nae Nixon of Durant. Services were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gilbert Sparks, Ray Blades, Tom Wolfe, Harvey Stewart, Winston Warthen and W.T. Warthen. Honorary bearers included Chad McMillian, B.J. Wright, Randall Colston and Cotton Wolfe. Jr. and Linda Wolfe of Lone Grove, Larry and Vera Wolfe of Leon, David and Rhonda Wolfe of Marietta, and Michael and Kim Wolfe of Grapevine, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Lynn Neal of Nettleton, Mississippi, Becky and Lucio Gomez of Ardmore and Kim Wolfe of Marietta; 16 granddaughters, seven grandsons, one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Adolfo Ramon, David Ray Wolfe, Shane Wolfe and Kevin Wolfe.
