Hello Colleen... Have you tried the BLM site (Bureau of Land Management)? They have the legal descriptions, etc. and you can even download a copy of the land grant. Or, if you want a copy from the BLM, you can order them. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ After reading the home page, click on the first tab that says Search Land Patents and just follow the directions. Good luck and happy hunting! Lois in Auburn, CA
I am trying to find some information on the land where my gggrandmfather, James Lewis Getman settled. The only info that I have is that he had 160 acres near Four mile Creek northeast of Kendrick. I suspect that he moved from Nebraska to OK during the land run of the early 1890's, but I can't be totally sure. I know that he owned this 160 acres. Is there is database online where I could find the exact land description? Also, I have the date of death for James Lewis Getman - Jan 25 1936 in Kendrick (buried at Black cemetery near Stroud). Is there anyone on the list that would be willing to do a lookup for Jame's obit? I appreciate the help! Colleen Lill Canada I am a nobody, nobody is perfect, therefore I am perfect.

See the township maps at the link "Maps - County * Township" (township) on the Lincoln Co. page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/twpmaps/lincoln.html and also for early landowners, the link "Lists and Maps of First Families & Land Owners" on the Lincoln Co. page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~oklincol/first_names.html as far as I know, the townships are still accurate. As usual, you can check with the museum in Chandler for more info. John -- John K. I also have ancestors from North Wichita Township. The closest town is Meeker, Oklahoma, and I believe they do have a historical society there now. The county seat is Chandler, Oklahoma. Another close town is in Pottawatomie County and is Shawnee, Oklahoma. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 17, 2002 1:06 AM Subject: [OKLINCOLN] Howden Hello. New to your list and searching for my great-grandmother's brother - this is one of those BIG family history mysteries! I posted a query on the OKGEN site today and someone looked up the following information - Benjamin F. Howden 1900 census North Wichita Township, Lincoln County, OK lived alone - farmer Benjamin was born in Ontario, Canada - came through Caldwell Co., Mo. (north of KCMO) probably around 1870 - when he died in 1901, my grandfather went to OK by train to claim his body - he is buried in Caldwell Co. in the 'poor' section of the cemetery. There are no family records on him - we believe he came to Mo. with a brother who probably died from malaria (in 1870) and is buried next to him. Does anyone know: Is there is a land atlas for North Wichita Township? What is the closest town to this township? Is there a historical society there? If someone dies in OK - would there be a record? Would there be newspapers/obits from 1901 available? Questions questions questions - one answer leads to 10 more questions!! I would appreciate any information, help or direction to resources in this area. Thank you. Dear List Members, I know this list will effect only a few of you, but thought I would let you know of it beginning. The Buffalo-Hunters Mailing list was approved yesterday and now is ready to subscribe to. If you have ancestors who were Buffalo Hunters and or are interested in their history, this list will be the place to learn about the Buffalo Hunters of the Old West. I had two great uncles who were hired by the U.S. Government as Buffalo Hunters. Living in 2002 I know what they did caused starvation to a group of people, waste and the near annihilation of a species. Of this I am not proud, but what they did is a part of the history of this country and I am proud of them for doing what they thought was right at that time. To join, send only the word SUBSCRIBE to [email protected] I look forward to the Buffalo-Hunters Mailing List becoming another tool for each of us to understand the world out ancestors lived in. Does anyone know if Lincoln County has death records from 1900 to 1910? I will be looking for Elizabeth J. White, age 62 in 1900. Her death date is unknown to me, but I want to ask the county offices for a death records search from 1900 to 1910. Thank you, Neva
I am researching John Presley McDaniel m. Mary Louisa Colville McDaniel. They migrated to Stroud in 1900 and settled on 80 acres south of Stroud near the Sac-Fox Agency. Both are buried in the Stroud Cemetery. Regards, Glenn Jones
