Roy Bratton died <1985> My father was Jewel Denie McCarter, and I am having very little luck tracing his father's family. The family of his mother (Lura Belle Waters) has fallen right into place, but I lose track of the entire family about 1900 (except for family stories). I have my parents' marriage certificate and SSDI records for Roy and Jewel. I was at my Grandma's funeral, but for the life of me I can't remember where she was buried, and can't find it online. I am certain it was in Lincoln. The family was in Chandler and Carney and Agra most of the time. Thank you. Aletta McCarter Morris

Bowman homesteaded 2 1/2 miles east of Sparks, Lincoln Co, OK and there was a Lydia school 1/2 east and 1/2 mile south of there. The school was destroyed by a tornado in the late 1940's or early '50's. I would sugest that you try the Lincoln County Historical Socity in Chandler. the county seat. It seems that there was a Johnston family living near there in the early 1930's.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HaB.2ACI/417 Message Board Post: My ancestors brother died Dec 20 1892 near Lydia, Oklahoma. I have found that Lydia was a town Lincoln County and only had a post office from 1802 to 1904, and that Lincoln was formed from the Land Rush of 1891. I am trying to determine if Bennett Johnston was there before the land rush or participated in the Land Rush or came shortly after the Rush. Trying tofind where he may be buried. He left a widow and children but most of the children were grown by the time he died. Bennett was born in 1831 in Kentucky. Since Lydia no longer exists I am looking for info on how to research there. Any clues, info or ideas greatly appreciated. I have a lot of info on Bennett before moving to Lydia and info on his 2 wives, and a list of his children and possibles where they were born but no info on anthing after he moved to Lydia or his life there. Would like to hear from his descendants.

Thanks. There's an unofficial 1900 index to the western townships [now Tohee, Wellston, Bryan & Kickapoo] on Ceil's Corner: Ceil's Corner or http://ceil.rootsweb.com/ I posted these some years ago, to make it easier for people to request lookups for the founding families in our area study. Just put the surname you're looking for in the search box and you should find every index that name appears on. Sharon McAllister
