Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HaB.2ACI/534.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Ruthie, the information is a little skimpy but here is what I found about the 3 Methodist ministers who were sons of William Albert and Ann Eliza White. From the 2002 Oklahoma Conference Journal of The United Methodist Church in a section entitled "OUR HONORED DEAD From the First Sessions of The United Methodist Church" are these listings. Leslie Orman White, b. 1912 in Oklahoma; d. 1979 in Oklahoma, Entered Itineracy, 1931 Oklahoma. N. Elvin White, b. 1906 in Oklahoma, d. 1985 in Oklahoma, Entered Itineracy 1931 Oklahoma. From the book, Oklahoma Methodism in the 20th Century, by Tom Oden and Leland Clegg, published 1968, in addition to the 2 above, there is a listing for D. Olney White who also entered Itineracy in 1931. (No date of birth shown.) He transferred to another conference in 1950, but his new location is not named. However, David Olney White's name is carried in the Conference Journals that we have in the church library where I volunteer time. His name is in a section entitled, "Retired Members of Other Annual Conferences With Past Service in Oklahoma." I found his name through the 1999 report, but did not find it in the 2000 report. So I think we could assume he died sometime between the two report periods. Also from the book Oklahoma Methodism in the 20th Century, page 41. "Some of the leaders of the Methodist Protestants after 1900 include: Dr. W. C. Mathes, M. L. Mathews, J. W. Browers, and Leslie White." Prior to 1939 the 3 main branches of Methodism were The Methodist Episcopal Church, The Methodist Episcopal Church South and The Methodist Protestant Church. These 3 branches were united in 1939. Oklahoma was divided into the West Conference and the East Conference. On page 204 of the above mentioned book: "The first session of the West Oklahoma Conference of The Methodist Church was officially opened by Bishop Charles L. Mead of Kansas City.....The bishop asked secretaries of the conferences of the three uniting churches to call the roll. Forrest A. Fields was elected secretary, and upon his nomination, Graham B. Hodge, L. C. Summers, and Leslie White were elected assistants." I have a little more information to send but I will do that by e-mail.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HaB.2ACI/534.1.1 Message Board Post: Ruthie, I wondered if this might be the White family I remember from many years ago in Prague. There is one entry for the William Albert White family at the www.rootsweb.com link for Search Family Trees. In looking at the names of their children, this is the family. I'm around 20-30 years younger than Elvin, Leslie and Elta, but I remember Elta and I remember Leslie and Elvin more by name. In the book, "Oklahoma Methodism in the 20th Century", published 1968, there is a Leslie White listed as one of the leaders in the Oklahoma Methodist Protestant Church. I believe it is the same person. The books' listing of ministers in the Oklahoma Conference also include an Elvin White and a D. Olney White, which is perhaps David Olney White. Later this week I will be working in my church's library. I'll check the Methodist Conference Journals to see if I can find more information.

OK, but is actually in Pottawatomie County. Many Pottawatomie County cemeteries are online, including the Giles Cemetery. Type Pottawatomie County Oklahoma in your address bar and you will find a link to the cemetery registrations. You will find Giles on the list. Another Pottawatomie County cemetery on the list not far from Prague is the Garden Grove Cemetery. My father was a minister in Prague who conducted many funerals. I know that he also conducted many burials in Little Cemetery, a large cemetery which is located in Seminole Co. and it is online. You might try these for other family members. Unfortunately, the Prague Cemetery is not online. The Prague cemetery records have been published as a part of several volumes of Lincoln County cemeteries.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HaB.2ACI/532.2 Message Board Post: Have you requested a death certificate for your mother? If properly filled out, this would list her parents names (including mother's maiden surname) and their states of birth. Or you might try for a contact with the funeral home that handled her final services. They provide the info that goes on a death certificate, plus they have the minister's name (church affiliation) and the pallbearers (usually family members). Hope these suggestions help you. Good luck!
