This reply is in response to the questions from several people asking about coal mine disasters in the Eastern Oklahoma, Indian Territory area. There is a book titled "Fatalities in the Coal Mines of Indian Territory and Southeastern Oklahoma 1885-1962." It is compiled and abstracted by Thurman Shuller, MD. It is a reference book and can't be checked out or loaned. The library call number is 967:7667 or 976:7667. (I think). It is/was available from The Pittsburg County Genealogy and Historical Society; 113 East Carl Albert Parkway; McAlester, OK 74501. The book was published in 1990 by them. The latest entry dates in the book were around 1949 when mining slowed down in Eastern OK. This book contains records from Churches, Funeral Home records, newspapers and journals from the area mines. I saw several entries from the Bokoshe and Heavener area mines. Another source of information will be from the Annual reports of Department of Mines and Mining of the State of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK. I do not have that address but you can probably find it on the net. Tom S PVGS
