She died in 1986, was born in 1901 (according to SS and marriage license info). My mother in law Dixie, said that her grandparents owned a saw mill in the area. Gertie was living in Wister and was married in Poteau in 1920 to David Williamson. We are planning on going down there this week to do some research. If you could pass on any info I would be greatful and I will also pass on anything I find too. Thanks :)

I am looking for information on the family of Bessie Lee Mitchell/Roberts/Weeks. Bessie married Reuben Roberts in 1892 in Indian Territory and they settled in Talihina where they are both buried. Reuben and Bessie had 4 children - Ruby (my grandmother) Benjamin, Marion and Jessie (who only lived 2 years). Reuben died in 1904 and Bessie remarried William Weeks in 1906 and had either 3 or 4 more children. Bessie's parents we believe were Nancy and George Mitchell. Nancy originally came from Alabama and Bessie was born in AL. George originally came from Georgia. Bessie had a brother named Jim and another sister who I do not know her name. I have a newspaper picture of Jim Mitchell when he worked for Talihina Power & Light but no date. I have been unable to find any information on Nancy and George. I would appreciate any information that could provide some clues to this family. Thanks Diane Turner [email protected]
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the list. I'm trying to find the burial place for Mary Magleen (full info below). We think it was in LeFlore County, but don't know where, could have been in the area surrounding Poteau. Also looking for the burial place of 2nd husband John C. BUTLER. He is not listed in the Talihina Cemetery, but is listed as dying there. Also looking for the grave of Jennie May (Butler) COPELAND (dau. by John Butler). Since dau. by Mary's 3rd marriage is buried next to her father, I'm hoping that Jennie May is buried with her father (wherever that is??).. Mary lived in Indian Territory for a good part of her life. In the 1910 census she stated that she had 8 children with 3 living. That accounted for Alice Ann (by 1st marriage) & Barsha (by 3rd marriage), since Jennie May was already deceased this leaves at least 1 child (Identity Unknown). There is a family story that Alice Ann told her children that her mother, Mary lost a husband & several children in some sort of Natural Disaster in Indian Territory. Does anyone know anything about that?? Could have been around Talihina in 1887?? If anyone has LeFlore County books or resources and can look for these graves or run across any information, or if you're connected to this family in any way, please get in touch with me. Any information will be greatly appreciated!!! Sandy: Pine Valley is in the Muse area. There was also a TB sanitorium in the vicinity. I do not know if it was ever an asylum, but it could have been. I am sure that some of the old timers that were raised in the area will know. When you are looking for someone it helps to put their names on the list. Perhaps someone may have some knowledge they can impart to you if they only knew who you were looking for. Just a suggestion. Thanks Tom S PVGS

Is there a place in Muse, Oklahoma, called Pine Valley, and if so, is their a Cemetery there ? My Great Great Grandparents were supposedly buried in Pine Valley, Muse, Oklahoma. I have no idea where they are buried, or their death dates. GGGrandma died around 1925. Was there a asylum in the area, GGGrandfather supposedly was put there, escaped and froze to death. Am trying to get information on these places, to try to trace their graves, and know their date's of death. If possible, want to send off for their obituaries, but have to find them first. Thank you very much for any help in this matter--I am in California, and can not go to Muse to research this. Thank you- Sandy [email protected]
