    1. [OKLEFLORE] Re: Muse
    2. Sandy Scofield
    3. Can any one on the list tell me what the name of the funeral home that would have taken care of the arraignments for the people being buried in the Muse Cemetery, in 1920-1921 was (address, so I can write them) and can anyone tell me what the name of the newspaper, that would have contained the obituaries for that area, in 1920-1921 was? The Muse area, I have been told, was called Pine Valley back then. My family that was there then, whom I am researching, was Revis/ or Reavis, Murphree, Miller. I am also interested in the connecting families, Cogburn, Pugh, Golden, Ward, My great great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Reavis,( also went by Tom Revis,) and his wife, Luina K. Murphree, died and are buried in the Muse cemetery. But I do not have the exact dates of death, they do not appear to have headstones. Also-Tom was put into a hospital/ asylum, escaped, and was found froze to death. I am trying to get a record, or newspaper article, detailing what happened. The closest hospital of this type is outside of Vinita. I have written them, but the web site for them states that they do not release medical information, unless you have a court order, even on deceased patients. This is why I would like to write the funeral home and the newspaper, if they still exist. If there is someone on the list, related to any of the above names, who had family in this area during that time, I would like to exchange information with you. Sincerely- Sandy [email protected]

    1. Re: [OKLEFLORE] Re: Trying to find family
    2. Jeffrey I could not find anything on a Prater E. Smith in the 1948 Muse/Pine Valley School District records. I did find the following though: PARENT POST OFFICE/ADDRESS SCHOOL DISTRICT AGNES SMITH Muse, OK 63 Student: Charles Hal SMITH White Male Born Jan 21, 1935 Age 13 This was the only SMITH family that is on record in the 1948 School census for the Muse/Pine Valley/ Whitesboro school district. Ordinarily the father was the one that enrolled the student on the school census in this period of time. In the absence of a father, the head of the household is listed as the parent or guardian, which may be the mother of the student. In this case, for some reason, the father did not enroll the student. Maybe the father was dead, divorced, out of town, or many other possibilities exist why he did not register the student. There was a total of 32 students in the school. It looks like this info might "muddy the waters" a little bit. I hope this helps in some way, good hunting. Tom S PVGS

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GaB.2ACI/11828 Message Board Post: Hello all, I just received "Standard Certificate of Death" for "James M. Decker "b. March 16,1853, son of "Daniel J. Decker" b. about 1826. Here's what it says:His full name: James Marion Decker born: March 16, 1853birthplace: Walnut Ridge, ARK.died: Feb.24,1938buried: (Old)Cache cemetery,(Haskell Co.) OK wife: Amanda Decker ( I now have hers also) (Amanda Agnes (McBride) Decker) she's buried at Old Cache cemetery also. NOW HERE"S THE REAL KICKER:It say's his parents names.... Father: Daniel Decker, birthplace: MO. Mother's Maiden name: Mary Hearst, birthplace: MO. You see, it doesn't say a word about "Choate" or "Keltner" for mother's maiden name. Cheryl, Mildred or anyone else in the group , have you tried to get a copy of James M. Decker's brothers or sister's death certificates? I wonder if it list the names of their parents the same as this one. I might try doing that next, if no one else has done that yet. I know that James M. Decker's sister "Jane" married "Peter Cosne! r" and lived in LeFlore county, and that they had something to do with the first Post Office. I'm told that Daniel J.Decker, their father lived in Heavner,LeFlore county, before the family moved to Haskell County,OK in the "Choctaw Nation". Pease write back, it's been a long time since I had time to work on this line. I will try to scan these death cert's soon, if anyone wants a copy. Warmest regards,Teri -aka (mrskingbob)Theresa Fayette (Decker) de Crooy "The Decker Clan of Haskell County, OK" P.S. I was not real surprised that James M. Decker's middle initial stands for "Marion", because it also is the middle name of my second born brother, Marty Marion Decker. I just had a feeling that it would be, my mother always said that my father had insisted on picking our middle names because of some family tradition.

He married Mary Rebecca Walden in Polk Co., AR on 06 Jan , 1889. Rebecca's parents were John M. Walden, and Nancy Mary Young. Nancy's mother, Millie Thompson, was the daughter of John Thompson Sr. and Ahneswakie or Arrisnwakie, a full blood Cherokee Indian. Sidney Brockham and Mary Rebecca Walden's children were: Maysel Dixie Jeffie Georgia, my ggrandmother. Georgia married Goerge Washington Daws (dawes), son of Joel Daws (Dawses). Mary died very young, possibibly of thyphoid fever. Sidney went to prison for "moonshining". Sidney and his daughters are found on the 1910 Leflore Co. OK, Summerfield township census records. I can't find him in 1920, so I assume he died between 1910 and 1920. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. I am trying desperately to prove the Indian Heritage.
