My Dear Dear Juanita, I've just arrived home from home around Glendale and ran across this email. (I have so many since being away for the holidays so will try to catch up within the next day or three.) Anyway, Oklahoma became a state in 1907, but before that for several years Leflore County was included in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. Silas lived there in Choctaw Nation near my relatives at Glendale. *smile* HUGS, Becky Juanita Bradshaw wrote: > > Hello, I looked at the 1900 Oklahoma census this morning and it dosen`t > have Leflore County and it says Oklahoma Territory, Some one tell me please > what county was in the place of Leflore co. Juanita - often forgotten fact... in 1900 what is now Oklahoma had 2 separate census. The 1900 Indian Territory census (generally the eastern half of Oklahoma) AND the 1900 Oklahoma Territory census (generally the western half of Oklahoma.) Map at http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/maps/images/ok1900xp.gif is a good visual reference. I don't have Ancestry access but have the PVGS 1900 census books. The Sylus listed seems likely match. According to the "Handybook for Genealogists," LeFlore County was formed in 1907 from Choctaw Lands. Both ladies lived in Cameron. They are buried at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith. Mariett was Myra's mother. When Mariett Vaughn died on June 3, 1932, she was 102 years old. Surely this rated some publicity in a local paper. Is there someone who can look for an obituary for her? Myra Hattendorf was 95 years old when she died January 28, 1953. Again, this should have rated some publicity. I would like a look up for her obituary. J. H. Hattendorf, husband of Myra, died May 15, 1928. An obituary for him would be nice, also. He, too, is buried at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith. Margaret McCleskey, Arlington, TX
