William Edward Jones came to Ponca City, Ok. with his wife Melvina at the opening of the Cherkoee Strip. He worked with Wells Fargo, till 1900-1910.After leaving Wells Fargo, he opened a refreshment stand on the corner of Second St. and Grand Ave. Sometime during the above time period, app. 1908 he fell in the stand. He was taken to Dr. Soulighny's offce two or three doors away.At this time he was living in the southeastern part of the city with his wife. His funeral was held in the Methodist Church, and was the most largey attended. This info from newspaper clipping,unknown date or paper titled "Dad " Jones Dead.
