The earlier ones are on film at the Ponca City Library, and from about 10 years ago are in books; however we have not found someone who will search and copy (for a fee or otherwise). Roberts & Son Funeral Home Inc is still in Blackwell, at 120 W Padon Ave, phone 580-363-3737. the telephone book mentions they have been there since 1928. I don't know anything about Blackwell school records, but the Supts Office is as 934 South 1 and phone is 580-363-2570. Recently I was able to purchase some old year books from my own High School in the Ozarks of Missouri - you might ask just in case they have any extras of a year when Alva Birchfield was in school. 3. Jim - I have the Kay Co, Ok Cemetery Inscriptions as of 1978 and can look for whoever you are interested in. There are two cemeteries not far north of Newkirk - the Newkirk city one, and the Washunga (Kaw Indians, cemetery moved across from the city one). Also, further north, almost at Kansas line, and near the railroad, is the Chilocco Cemetery. However in the book, it advises there was a smallpox epidemic in the 1880s - many died, including at the Indian community, and over 50 people are buried in the cemetery. The Alumni Assoc put up markers, but no names. I found a Mrs. Dan Bain of Newkirk listed under Indian Papers, ordered the film from LDS a month ago but it still hasn't arrived. Don't know it is my Bains or not. Does anyone know Mrs. Bain or any of Oliver Perry's descendants. He was buried in Perkin, OK, 1901. After his death his wife Mahala and two children came to Californai. He was from Ohio, lived around MO, fought in the Mexican War and the Civil War. All the info I have gathered to date is listed below. Any type of help or advice will be greatly appreciated. 3. Hi, All. The Kay County page has been updated this week. In addition to new surnames and queries, I have added an index of the men and women of Kay County who served in WWI. Thanks to the generosity of Allene Niehaus, I now have her copy of the "Kay County Honor Roll and Service Record". I will be happy to do lookups until I finish scanning in the pages of the book over the next few weeks and linking them to the index. An letter dated 1990 tells of family reunions at Ponca city's Wentz park. Can I get a phone number or e-mail for the park? I am trying hard to locate relatives (cousins of my mother's) that can help give our family history. The reunions were refered to as 'McDowell-Humphreys'. My mother's cousin that had been faithful to write was daughter of Janie McDowell and Charley M. Humphreys and her name is Mattie Gene (Humphreys) Rogers. Mattie would have been 92 in June if she is still living. ANY help would be appreciated deeply. Thank you Barbara Sue Brinley Carter barbara@sank.com

    2. I am researching Claude MEEKS who died in Tonkawa August 1985. Does anyone have access to an Obit or death certificate on him? Also, my family history says my great grandfather, Charles Anthony CONNER (name changed from O'Connor) was a sheriff in Tonkawa. This probably would have been somewhere between 1895-1925. Charley and his wife, Laura, lived on a farm just outside of Lamont with their children, Lial, Viola, Leila, Dewey, Orville and Alice. I can't find anything to substantiate Grandpa being a sheriff. Does anyone have info on that? Thanks for your help, Laura mycrafts@aol.com

    3. This is just a shot in the dark, but is there a similar WWII book? My father was in the navy from 1942 till the end of the war, I think. He might not be in the WWII book even if it does exist because even though he was born in Kaw City, he was living in Los Angleles when he entered the navy. His name was Patrick Virgil Taylor (he went by Pat), and he was born March 6, 1924. At least I think all of the above is true.. Sincerely, Wayne Taylor --- "Edward A.
