    3. Listers - I stand corrected. First mistake I made this year. HeHe I was at my Society's library today and discovered a book published by National Society Daughters of the American Revolution of Ponca City, Chap., of the Kay County marriages from Sept 1893 thru March 1900 with index. I have the book checked out for two weeks. (Ray - I already looked. Chas Rufus McClung was not listed). Bonnie

    3. Alice, I did some look-ups in the few Kay Co, Ok source books I have and hope some of these names, and the info might help. In the Ponca City Region Phone book of 1998, which includes all of Kay County, there were no Hannagan, Britte, or Bronke. Did see listings for some Muegges at Lamont and Tonkawa, and some Steeles at Ponca City. If you want these names and listings, let me know. >From Cemetery Inscriptions, Kay Co, Okla, published in 1978 by Pioneer Genealogical Society, of Ponca City, Okla: The book is not indexed. 1. [OKKAY] Obits/Funeral Records Before 1934?
    2. Hello List- I am writing for advice! In researching my GG-Grandfather, Monroe DAVIS d 3-27-34 at Blackwell, DESSA from the public library was able to help me find an obit! Yaaay and many thanks to Dessa! She further advised me to contact ROBERTS &SONS Funeral Home, which I did......but unfortunately, I was told that they didn't begin saving their hard records until 1935.....nothing on Monroe Davis in 1934, though Roberts Chapel performed the services.... I was hopeful to find the funeral records of Monroe in 1934, but I am more desperate to find records or obit of his wife, Sarah (McHenry) DAVIS, who died in 1912. I keep thinking her obit or record holds many clues to their 5 children who died before 1900 and possibly clues to her MCHENRY family. Since both Monroe & Sarah died in Blackwell and their services were held there, I hope to find something, but where? Both bodies were taken to Ames Cemetery in Ames, OK for burial after Blackwell services. From the stone of Sarah in Ames, I know only that she died in 1912. From family story, it is believed her death occurred in the winter. That is as much as I know. I tried Ames for info and now Blackwell....bummed. Any advice or direction would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! Marla

Thomas Hannegan claimed land for a townsite in 1893 (Cherokee Run) in what is now known as Osbourne,Grant County I believe. When the eventual townsite of Eddy located 1 1/2 mi to the west, he turned the property over to his nephew, Wm. 'Daniel' Hannegan. Daniel Hannegan married Eva May Steele, daughter of Silas Wesley Steele of Retta, Kay County where they raised their children into adulthood. The homestead was sold to the Ann Belle Muegge in 1939. Children of Daniel and May Hannegan: Glenn Wesley Hannegan; Dee William Hannegan; Harry Steele Hannegan; Velma Lucy Hannegan; Marguerette Lillian Hannegan; and Roger Eugene Hannegan. I am the daughter of Glenn, and am now residing in Alberta, Canada. I am interested in locating any family members of this family in order to compare information. I am particularly interested in Uncle Tom Hannegan (Thomas). I believe Tom was married to Mary Britte of Oklahoma and they had 2 or 3 children, one of whom was married to a Mr. Bronke and lived close to Blackwell. Any information of this family would be gratefully received and information shared.

    2. Bonnie L Johnson
    3. Good Evening Listers. I was one unhappy camper Sunday. First, the library was open only from 2:00 until 5:00. I was hoping for at least 6 hours work. Next, the genealogy assistant is not there on Sunday and Monday, so another lady had to help me find the films, etc. Then, there was only one machine that took pictures that worked. So my plan to have my daughter help fell through. But worse, the machine would not reduce in size enough, so it was impossible to see an entire newspaper page without moving it up and down, sideways, etc. And of course, most of ones I was looking for were old enough that there was not an Obit Section as such. Rather, the obits were scattered throughout the papers, maybe front page, maybe in the news from a nearby community, etc. I worked on lister requests only, but I had very little luck. But will keep your requests on hand, and hope to get back during a week-day. One other thing - the obits from 1986 to now, have been cut out and put in books - very easy to find. But ones before that are a part of the original paper, which they have filmed, and there is no index. So when all I have is a year, or even a month and year when a party died, the possibilities of finding an obit are next to nil. Marriages were a little easier to check. The LDS and Pioneer Genealogical volunteers had filmed the index of each marriage book, and then the actual marriage licenses. I couldn't get the entire page copied at one time, so did it in two parts. Enough crying - maybe I'll have better luck next time. Bonnie Johnson @ Wichita, Ks

I hadn't heard one way or the other, so when I was at Ponca City on Sunday, I found it, and took pictures. Did not find the marriage of Rufus McClung to Ida Mae Bowman. Marriage records that I found started with 1893. I checked the filmed index for both names but no luck. I'm not sure I still have your addresses, so let me know, so I can mail these copies to you. 3. Posted on: Kay County, Ok Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Kay/41 Surname: WARD, CARR ------------------------- It seems very possible a query I found under Kay County Queries today (30 October, 2000)is by someone searching the same line I am seeking in my own query, which is also on a Kay County Queries list. Neither query has a date on it, and the other person's has no name or e-mail address, or any other identification. I'd like very much to contact the person who wrote the following, "...Lial, Viola, Leila, Dewey, Orville, or Alice. I can't find anything to substantiate Grandpa being a sheriff. Does anyone have info on that?Laura WARD/ CARR I am hoping someone on your list will recognize one of the following names as one of their ancestors who made the Cherokee Strip Run in 1893..." I notice that the last statement written in that query is verbatim the same statement as my first statement in MY query. I suspect someone inadvertantly combined the two queries at that point. Perhaps the Laura WARD/ CARR is the author of the query. If so, how can I contact her? Very respectfully, Ruth Curless P.S. My query was sent 6/2/00.

    3. Hi, All. It's been embarassingly long since the last Kay County update, but now that it's done, there's a LOT of new stuff. While I was working on it, I noticed a couple of things. There are many queries that for the same surnames. Just want to remind you to check the surname page. Besides those researchers who send a full-blown query, I have lots of people who just want their surname and e-mail address listed. I have multiple researchers listed for many surnames, and not just the more common ones. Secondly, we have so many names on the Gleanings page, it would be a shame not to check it. Finally, to catch ALL mentions of the surnames you are researching, be sure and use the Search form on the main page and to use as many alternate spellings as you can think of. Use just the surname or 1 key word for the maximum number of hits. And if you don't find it on the Kay County page, there is a link to the rootsweb global search engine. I personally try to do that at least once a month for my Hoisington ancestors. I find entries in the most unsuspected archive locations <VBG>. Good hunting! I had written to the Pioneer Genealogical Society in Ponca City about three of them, but I guess they're busy, as I never heard back. *If* you have time, I'd sure appreciate any of the following obits.: Dora Eva (Riggs) Johnson (1869 - 21 December 1903, Peckham?, OK) Allison Breedlove Johnson (1866 - 23 March 1908, Ponca City, OK) Fanchon Fay Johnson Stratford (1889 - 21 October 1909, Kay Co., OK) William H. Woods (1862 - 3 January 1946, Blackwell, OK) Sarah Almira (Osborn) Woods (1867 - 20 May 1958, Blackwell, OK) I'd be happy to pay any costs. Good luck with your research, and thanks! If a question is posed to the list, you would be doing a disservice to other members NOT to reply back to the list. As long as it is on topic, we can all learn. Even if it is not our particular family, there may be hints on where to look gleaned from other peoples research. Our mail lists are archived at rootsweb, and your answer may help someone later who is not on the list today.
