    3. Posted on: Kay County, Ok Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ok/Kay/10058 Surname: ------------------------- I suggest that you might look for the surname SOUTHWICK in Garfield county, OK or its surrounding counties. I know I've heard that surname referenced either in the Enid or Garber, OK area. There is an excellent Garfield County genealogy society in Enid. They have a web-site. I have looked through the Kay County OK Cemetary book and didn't find any SOUTHWICKs. None in our current phone book. Best of Luck !!! Karen Ponca City, OK (Kay county)

    1. [OKKAY] Kay County (OK)Honor Roll (WWI) now online
    2. Harriette Jensen
    3. Hi, All. We've been doing lookups on the Kay County page for over a year now from a copy of the "Kay County Honor Roll and Service Record" of WWI veterans that was generously given to me by Allene Niehaus. There were hundreds of entries, with pictures, personal and service information on most veterans. There are also some pictures of nurses, people who supported the war effort in some way, and pictures of mothers who lost their sons in the war. The veterans are mostly Kay County residents, but many were born elsewhere or joined from other Oklahoma counties and states (a lot from Kansas) to serve in the Kay County units. A few months ago, Vicki Ebert offered to scan in her copy so that we could have both the pictures and service records online. I'm pleased to announce that all the scanning is done and I have just completed linking the scans to the names in the index. You can enter from a link on the main Kay County page <http://www.rootsweb.com/~okkay/okkay.htm> or go directly to the Kay County Honor Roll <http://www.rootsweb.com/~okkay/hrmain.htm>. I want to thank Allene and Vicki for making it possible to make this book available online. Harriette

    3. Linda - I don't have any personal knowledge about this family; however I checked through the book - Kay County, Ok Cemetery Inscriptions published by the Pioneer Genealogical Society of Ponca City, Okla, for anyone with the surnames of Patchin and Yerber - none found. Also I checked the 1998 regional Kay County Telephone directory - no one listed with those surnames. Hopefully someone on the list will recognize the names from their lines. 1. [OKKAY] Attn Bonnie
    2. Hi Bonnie, This is Marla. Usually I am digging for Davis, Birchfield, Bradford...but I them now! However, I see that you are from Wichita, KS. I have some roots there as well, but right now I am trying to help a friend in WA with an interesting search. In 1926 her great grandmother was 16, pregnant and in a mental sanitarium in Wichita. Do you have any idea what the place was called? Her baby was born there, and then the baby went into care at the Salvation Army Home for about 3 months prior to an adoption. The birth mother (born 1910) was Maxine Lee DAVIS, and she named the baby Maxine Lee DAVIS (born 1926). The birth father was possibly Vernon JOHNSTON. My friend would like to locate information on the birth parents, the sanitarium and the Salvation Army home, if possible. The baby was adopted by Clifford Morris and Grace Beatrice MCCOSH and the adoption was done in Boulder, CO. Apparently the MCCOSH has a lot of KS roots as well. I thought I would toss this past you, since you are in Wichita and such a great info digger! I would appreciate any assistance or further direction you can give us. Take Care and thanks for your time! Marla

    3. Good Evening, J. D. There are three IOOF Cemeteries in Kay County, Ok - at Blackwell, Ponca City and Tonkawa. I found your man in the Tonkawa IOOF cemetery, located Northwest of town on highways 77 and 66, in the book Cemetery Inscriptions, Kay County, Okla, which was published by the Pioneer Genealogical Society of Ponca City, Okla about 1978. The book is not indexed. Rather, each cemetery has the names listed alphabetical. Therefore all persons of the same name may not be related and may not be buried in the same plot or adjacent to one another; however the people doing the survey did make some relationship notations. That said, I am listing all the Morris persons found in the cemetery in case they are connected. 3. Mark, I can't help you with the obituaries, but I can give you a list of who is buried where. 'From the book, Cemetery Inscriptions,Kay County, Okla, by Pioneer Genealogical Society, Ponca City, Okla, published about 1978. The book is not indexed; rather, each cemetery is alphabetical, therefore all persons with the same name are not necessarily related and may not be buried in the same plot, or adjacent. Some notations of relationships were made by the persons doing the surveys. The Ponca City Newspapers are on microfiche at the Ponca City Library. However, that far back (1929) obituaries were not in a special section of the paper. Therefore, it would be necessary to look through the entire year, each page of each newspaper. I can tell you from experience, it is extremely time consuming, and not always successful. I'm not sure if it would work, but I would suggest you contact the Ponca City Funeral Director(s) and try to determine through them an exact date of death. I'm listing below the directors from the 1998 Telephone Book. Also, if you could, I would appreciate knowing what reception and/or help you are given, and if they have any sort of master list from years ago, so I will know if this is a good idea, and perhaps which place was in business back then, or have the records from a previous older business. Trout Funeral Home, 505 W Grand, PC 580-765-4411 (since 1936 per phone book) Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 N 14th, PC 580-762-2464 (since 1954 per phone book) Also, the Odd Fellows Cem is listed, 580-765-3446. Maybe the office will have full dates of burial. Posted on: Kay County, Ok Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Kay/10051 Surname: Bushnell, Mears, Kemp, Friend, Boyd, Dicks ------------------------- My great-grandfather, CHESTER BUSHNELL, was married to Eva Jane MEDLEY in Wisconsin in 1886. They had 7 children and moved to Payne Co, OK by 1898. Eva died in Colorado in 1908. Now the mystery.......we know Chester married Elnora Mears in 1909 in KAY CO,OK and divorced her in 1910. Now we have discovered he married Maude Kemp in March 1911. Thru some papers we know that he and Maude divorced by 1919 because he married Julina Boyd Dicks (from Kay Co) 17 October 1919 when he was 59 yrs old. Maude later married NELSON FRIEND from Arkansas City, KS. In December 1920 Maude (formerly Bushnell) Friend and Chester were in COWLEY CO, KS hangling over property in Nevada. Does anyone know anything about Maude Kemp Bushnell Friend? Chester and Julina divorced 6 December, 1924, in Elko, NV, and he died the next day of a heart attack. I hope we don't find any more marriages for Chester.....I am still trying to figure all these out. Anyone out there with any information email me at grandma168@aol.com

    3. Linda - I checked through all the cemeteries listed in the book, Cemetery Inscriptions, Kay County, Okla, published by the Pioneer Genealogical Society of Ponca City, Okla approx. 1978. The book includes some small family cemeteries, but none named Brown. Also, did not find any Anna Belle Brown listed in any cemetery. One surprising find, in the Ponca City IOOF cemetery, there is an Isaac H Brown Jan 3 1890, nd: wife Ruby G. Dates are wrong for your Isaac Brown, but possible relation? Sorry I couldn't help more.
