I am new to this list. I just found out my 2nd great grandfather, Henry G. Balch is buried in the Russett Cemetery and died there 1903. Does anyone know where I can find any history on this little forgotten town? I also found out there is a Russett Church. Is it still in existence? I am very curious about this little town and why my grandfather would have brought his family there. Would land records be recorded in the Johnston Co. courthouse for this area? I know that this was Chickasaw nation before Oklahoma became a state. I am just at a loss where to look for the records. I have never researched in Oklahoma prior to statehood and would like some guidance. I would also like to know what 1900 census to look on to find them. I checked the census for that year and find none for Johnston Co, but Oklahoma Territory. When I looked through there I didn't see any Chickasaw records. I saw Osage, Apache, Commanche and others. Is this the correct census to check. I hate to look through the whole thing if I don't have too if someone would point me in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated.
