    1. [OKJOHNST-L] ELLIS/ORR>TX>OK
    2. I am looking for information on a Martha Isabel ELLIS, who would have married an Orr, circa 1890. Not sure what his first name was. I have been told that it may have been William or Isaac James. Martha’s name may have been HODGES, at the time that she married ORR. Martha, b 1875, was raised in Miller Grove, Hopkins Co., Texas. She was listed with her father, Samuel Newton ELLIS, in Miller Grove, TX, on the 1880 Census. When I find her on the 1900 Census in Mill Creek, I.T., she is listed as Martha ORR and as a widow living with her father. Martha and ORR had three daughters, my husbands grandmother, Dessie Olena, b 1892, Ova Antheline, b 1896, and Eva Marie, 1898. Martha was also known to go by the name Mattie Belle. I am looking for any record that would tie Martha to any ORR. I am at a stand still on this line until I find the elusive ORR. Would appreciate any help anyone can give. I have quite a bit of information on the ELLIS side to share. Not knowing where they were married at, I am sending this post to all of the lists that I belong to in Texas and Oklahoma in the hopes that someone might have some information that will help. Please forgive me if you receive it more than once. Pat Tucson2som@aol.com

    3. Jo, I remember the man's name that was accused of killing him. George Whalin, he was from the Wapanucka area. His nephew Burell Bennett was involved also. George Whalin got 20 years in the pen and the census shows this. I saw a Whalin in your list. is it him? I sure hope so He has been a mystery. Would like to see your family connect to mine. I would like to view you gedcom or list. My George was to have had a son by a woman who was kin to George Whalin. There was also a George Eugene Whalin who was the son of a Kansas Whalin as stated in a letter to George W. Turnbull in 1900 where he has put in an application to enter him on the rolls as Choctaw. It was denied due to the fact that they were not married. we found no more mentions of Kansas after that. She is also a mystery. we also found a marriage license for a georgWhalin who was married on the Turnbull place. we think that may have been George Eugene Whalin. If you are interested When you are in Tish ask Steve to see the clipping and trial records of the George Turnbull Murder. I have them and have typed them out if you are interested. I also have the originals scanned. 3. Jo, My George W. Turnbull was killed in 1914 in Emet, Oklahoma. Killed while on the way home from the store in the evening. He is buried in Condon Grove Cemetery near Tish. His Mother and Stepfather were Jane and Gearge A. Melton. She died in the 30's not sure when he did. Does this sound familiar? 3. My sister and I will be coming soon to Tishomingo for family research. Is there anyone who can contact me privately regarding the best place to stay while we are there, as well as the best place to eat? We will be spending our days at the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters, or has it moved from the side of the old court house? We will be searching for materials on our grandfather, William Gaddis, b. 1883. The earliest we have found him is in Indian Terr. at the age of 12, living with his mother, Sallie Gaddis. No more records until he marries Bettie Lee Sheppard in Milburn. They were said to have lived on the old fairgrounds as my grandfather was the groundskeeper there. Bill Gaddis had a brother, Benjamin Allen Gaddis, who lived in Tish across the old wooden swinging bridge. He moved to Ada but later returned to live the rest of his life in Tish, where he is buried. Ben married Cordia _______. We have searched the court house, but not much there. We would like to spend some time reviewing newspapers of that time period. We have also found the name of their father, Allen C. (Cornelius, an uncle is named Cornelius) Gaddis, who married Sallie Rogers in Fannin Co., Texas and then disappeared. Does anyone have any suggestions that is familiar with the records of Tishomingo? Are there other counties nearby we should also investigate? SURNAMES: GADDIS, SHEPPARD, ROGERS, WHALIN, POTTS, and others. Not all information has been uploaded to the site. It looks like it is near the county line for Johnston and Murray. Does any one have a map or something that would tell me exactly where this is? Martha

Hi, just wanted to share some info that came over the Arkansas roots line. --------------FORWARDED MESSAGE--------------- "The Rhode Island Cemetery Project is attempting to put every known grave, from every cemetery in Rhode Island, on the Internet! They do NOT have them all on yet, but they have posted literally hundreds of thousands. These run the gamut from every town, from the early 1600's to the present, with surnames from A through Z. On the Internet, they just list the names, dates and where the person is buried. They do NOT list entire gravestone inscriptions. To access this site, the address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rigenweb/cemetery/ Please post this to every genealogy list you belong to, and share it with any genealogical societies possible." ---- End Included Message ----
