Hello cousin!! It may be because I don't know anyone on the Raper side to corresponded with, most of the older family members are now gone. My grandfather passed in the 1960's, my grandmother in 1979. It seems we have years of gaps to fill and many yarns to share. I will be in touch with you and look forward to reuniting our families, if not in Oklahoma, then in Texas:) I walked and climbed the Devils Den, held my breath as we crossed the swinging bridge and remember all the places you mentioned, just not the people except our Uncle Ben and Aunt Cordie. I'm sure my Mom and her sister will also have a few memories to share. Won't they all be surprised when they get up in the morning:) This is wonderful, we finally have found family, we are not orphans:) I look forward to hearing from anyone in the family, to renew bonds and share information. Jo, Why haven't we corresponded before? My grandmother, Nancy Callie "Louie" Dean Breeden Armstrong, was Cordie's cousin. My dad remembers Cordie and Ben. He's gone to bed now but he will be so excited when I tell him. My great-grandmother was Mary "Mollie" Raper Breeden. Her brother was William Francis Raper, Cordie's father. Louie was 2 years older than Cordie. I have more news. Our cousin, Betty Merle, who started the Raper Home Page, is more closely related than I am. Her father, Walter Summerfield Raper, was Cordie's brother. We have some unidentified photos that were given to the Oklahoma City Museum of the Raper family (that's what the folder said). One of them at least, my dad believes is Cordie. We discovered two which he says are his mother. My dad went to live with his grandparents in 1922 at age 11. He stayed in Emet for many years and got to know a lot about the Raper family. He is 88 years old and has an excellent memory. I live in Fort Worth. My dad's sister stayed in Emet and took care of her grandparents (Mollie Raper and Will Breeden) until their death. She then took care of her uncle Etta Breeden until 1969. We made many visits to Emet and on Saturday we would go to Tish, after my aunt took her Sat. bath in the galvanized tub. They had no running water or indoor plumbing until 1967. They got electricity the year I was born in 1954. I've spent many weekends and Christmases in Emet, Tish, Milburn, Devil's Den, the swinging bridge, etc. In fact, some of my best childhood memories are of Emet. I've copied Betty on this email so I bet she'll be getting in touch with you. Betty's coming to stay with me a few days before the reunion. I do hope I'll see you there. Check out the website. It looks like Cordie married a Wells, maybe after Ben died. I looked at your website. I want to check the photos later. I have to drive to Love Field tomorrow to catch a 730am flighty to San Antonio for meetings the next 2 days. I'm not even packed yet. I'll get back with you when I get home. I want to copy down some information from your GEDCOM. Hi Kay, We have a Cordia Raper married to our Benjamin Allen Gaddis, they lived in Tish, just across the old swinging bridge. I remember them very well, she was very precious to us although we didn't get to visit with them often. Back when they were still alive, it was a long way to travel from Dallas, no super highway system then, had to hit every small town between Dallas and Tish.:) Please visit my web site and see if any of the information is familiar to you. My sister and I have been researching this family since 1980 and have found very few directly linked family members or even anyone who knows them enough to help us. My husband also has family members still living in Tish on his Endsley/Winkler side of the family.... Sorry to go on, just became excited to actually see a posting after all these months of being a member and almost giving up on our Gaddis/Raper family. I will be contacting you privately with more details as how to contact me. I only wish I could attend the reunion, I have so many questions.... Because of Genealogy Shoppe, I am at times given articles that people purchase at auctions or found at homes that they have moved into...I will be sending several emails trying to get various articles back where they need to be..with the family. This packet of photos I am looking for anyone researching the Imhausen (Imhauser) family. They are taken during the WWII era...I will want to know the given name(s) that served and you are researching so I can place these with the correct descendants. If you know places stationed please include them. Thank you Kathy
Looking for FRYER"S, GREEN"S, DAY"S, COX"S, LOVELESS"S, WHITE"S, DOTY"S. All had a connection in Johnston Co. (Tishomingo) in the early 1900's. If there is a connection I would love to share info.. JUANITA WOOD

Hello researchers,, If some of your family fought during the Civil War in Indian Territory as soldiers in the US Indian Home Guards, I have posted 3 pages, Dischareges, Pension Applications and Pensions of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Indian Home Guards. Found George W. and Ellen Walton in the 1910 OK census. Looking for additional information regarding my 2g grandparents. Also interested in info on George and Ellen's daughter Elizabeth and her husband Robert Mince Mitchell, my great-grandparents. The Mitchells were listed in the 1900 census-- Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. Thanks Rich
does anyone have any info of Richard and Eliza Jane Scarberry? they are on the 1900 Johnston County census. we have been searching for these, our GreatGreat Grandparents for a long time. Richard and Eliza were both born in Tennessee, migrated to Kentucky. Last known on the 1880 Barren County Kentucky census until today. just found today they were in Oklahoma in 1900. they are listed with only 3 of their children. we pretty much know the rest of the children settled in Oklahoma, 1 in Arkansas. any help at all will be so appreciated. thanks, Carlene in Texas
I am looking for information on Isaac Smith. He was born 11 Sept 1840 in PA or NY. He was in the civil war and moved around a bit. He died 7 Jan 1912 in Bromide, Brogden twp, Johnston Co., OK. I would love to find out what is on the tombstone, an obit or anything else available. He was my great grandfather's brother. Thanks, Donna
Kay, Some of my Click families married into the Humbard and Tallent families. Humbard's in Cocke Co. TN and Tallent's in Blount Co. TN. The Moore's married into the Denton lines and the Denton's married into my Click lines too. Those families in Cocke Co. & Greene Co. TN just intermarried until I just about have to research those families to get the picture. Carolyn Whitaker
Carolyn, My Tennessee families are: Armstrong, Duff, Moore, Raper, Veal, Breeden, Martin, Smith, Hicks. Some allied lines are Graham, Humbard, Tallent, Kinser, Hunt. Many of these families migrated before the Civil War from Greene/Washington Counties to Polk/Bradley Counties. I read somewhere that many Polk County residents came to N. Central Texas around 1880-1885. The Armstrongs, Breedens, Rapers, Duffs and Moores were among those. When Texas didn't pan out the way they hoped, they went to Indian Territory about 1894-1895. They settled in what is now Johnston Co. near Milburn (between Tishomingo and Durant). I am curious if you are researching any of these families. Kay, Thanks very much for your offer. What are you family lines. Many of the people from Tenn took the same paths into Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. I find Cocke Co. families all over the place when I research. It's almost unbelievable. Who knows maybe we are related. Carolyn
Carolyn, Our families must have followed the same paths. I've seen your name on Greene and Polk Co. lists. There was a census taken of Johnston Co. just before statehood. I think it was in 1902. It is available at the National Archives regional office in Fort Worth TX. There may be other places it is available. If you need a lookup, I should be able to go sometime in the next couple of months. I can check it out for you. I am > very curious about this little town and why my grandfather would have > brought > his family there. > Hi Carolyn and others, I too, would be interested in finding any information about Russett. My g-grandfather, Joe (Josiah) RIGNEY is buried there also. His first wife, Emeline Burk died in 1917 and is buried in Tishomingo. He married a woman named Lillie and she is buried there also. Joe and Lillie Rigney had twin sons named Joy and Toy (no kidding) Rigney. I haven't been able to find a marriage record or find out who this Lillie was. I even have her death certf. and her maiden name is not on there. If anyone out there researching this area has any information about Joe and Lillie Rigney, I would appreciate it. Joe Rigney was my father's grandfather, and mother says she remembers visiting at the Rigney home there in Russett. She said Joe Rigney lived accross the road from a cemetery. Thanks, Joanna Smith Dunn
I am new to this list. I just found out my 2nd great grandfather, Henry G. Balch is buried in the Russett Cemetery and died there 1903. Does anyone know where I can find any history on this little forgotten town? I also found out there is a Russett Church. Is it still in existence? I am very curious about this little town and why my grandfather would have brought his family there. Would land records be recorded in the Johnston Co. courthouse for this area? I know that this was Chickasaw nation before Oklahoma became a state. I am just at a loss where to look for the records. I have never researched in Oklahoma prior to statehood and would like some guidance. I would also like to know what 1900 census to look on to find them. I checked the census for that year and find none for Johnston Co, but Oklahoma Territory. When I looked through there I didn't see any Chickasaw records. I saw Osage, Apache, Commanche and others. Is this the correct census to check. I hate to look through the whole thing if I don't have too if someone would point me in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated.
