H. EASTON (CHICKASAW) The subject of this sketch was born in Albermarle, Va. and came to the Chickasaw Nation in 1860. At the opening of the war he was elected Captain of Company 11, Chickasaw Calvary, under Col. Lem Reynolds, and was in action at Elkhorn, Newtonia, Mazzard Prairie, Bird Creek and Round Mound, disbanding his company at Ft. Washita in 1865. In 1867 he married Margaret Taylor, a widow, by whom he has four children: Josephine, Gracie, Henry, and Franklin, the oldest being eighteen years old, the youngest is ten years of age. In 1887 he moved to Tishomingo where he had been doing business, to the present home at Emmet. He is now engaged in a small mercantile business, and has besides some fifty acres of land under cultivation. I hope this is of some help.

On his arrival in the Territory, Mr. Talley devoted his first few years to the business of freighting, at that time very profitable, and was employed by the U.S. Government carrying goods from Caddo, Indian Territory, to the Indian Reservation at Fort Sill. In 1877 he drove cattle from Erin Springs to Colorado, and Wyoming, remaining two years on the cattle range in the former Territory. In 1879 he settled down on the Washita River, Indian Territory, and in 1881 secured his indian right by marrying Agnes, daughter of Senator Nelson Chigley, one of the most progressive of the full blood Chickasaws. By this union, he had four children, Fannie, William, Nelson, Tom Perry, and Suda Bell, the oldest aged eight years, and the youngest three years. His wife died Feb. 16, 1888, aged twenty six years. Mr. Talley has 800 acres under fence. I also found some Chigley names. There is an Eliza, Jane, Moses, Nelson, and Wyatt. Bart is Martha's 2nd husband...her first was JAMES W. ARMSTRONG (Bart's brother). After James was killed, Martha (widowed with 5 small children & living in the Wise / Jack Co TX area) married Bart. Bart & Martha had 2 sons, U. GRANT; THOMAS, and their oldest child was a daughter, LAURIE or LAURA... don't know who she married. Grant was killed while in his 20's in the Ravia OK area...reported to be buried in the Ravis Cem....but apparently it is unmarked. Have no trail for THOMAS ARMSTRONG. In 1896, the family was living in the MANNSVILLE, JOHNSTON CO, OK area. Found that thru the Dawes Census. Have been told by a distant relative that they were in the Tishomingo area as late as 1906, but have no documentation. If anyone who reads this has access to any census; or other records during that time, could you please check for me and see if they are in or around the Tishomingo area during that time frame? We are at a dead end with this area of my ancestors...don't even know when they died or where they are buried. My connection to them is thru the youngest son of JAMES W. AND MARTHA HIGGINS ARMSTRONG, Robert Lincoln "Linc" Armstrong, born about 1865 in TX. He married Martha V. Gregg, b. 1870 in MO. She moved to TX as a very young child. Linc and Martha V. Gregg Armstrong are buried in the Troy, Johnston Co., OK Cemetery...just recently got markers. Linc & Martha V. (we were always told) married in Bullet Prairie but can find no record. They lived for a time in the Baum / Mannsville, Johnston Co, OK area, then moved up around Troy and Mill Creek. Linc & Martha's oldest daughter, Nona Ann Armstrong Pittman, was my maternal grandmother. I appreciate any leads than anyone can offer. Thanks in advance. Diane

This is what I know: Gurtie was born October 30, 1900( Mena ark) to the parents of Ed ward Risenhoover and Sarah Jane Risenhoover nee: Philpot. Gurtie married Orville Ownsby on June 6,1929( Tahoka, Texas( but I cant find the record there) Lucy Ownsby died August 1980. she had one daughter, Christine Winkler. Gurtie is buried at Tishomingo Cementery. On her obit it mentioned that she had three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. I would like to find descendants of hers, Gurtie was the sister of my grandmother, Mittie Caves( Risenhoover) I am working on the Risenhoover family tree and axious to find more information.
