A sincere Thank You to all. First, for allowing me to vent my frustrations at your expense, and second, for all the really supportive replies that were received since last night. I printed the majority of them and took them to work today. You folks should have seen the faces of my co-workers as they read the responses. Every one's spirits were lifted, we forgot our worries and faced the new day with a renewed since of pride in what we were doing for our customers. Please forgive me for not answering each of you personally. The first message was sent to 4 lists and the response was overwhelming. Just know that you have brightened the day of MANY utility workers in several states who have seen and read what has transpired here in the last 24 hours. Sincerely, Kim Collins

The Ice Storms and extreme weather are from Mother Nature and beyond our control. It is great to know that you and those like you do your best to make it right! We've been without power for long periods here in northern Idaho, too. What a pain.! We really don't know what we have til it's gone. Let's hope the crippling weather is over! Becky York Co-list administrator | This is for those of you who have chosen to criticize your electric, phone and cable companies for not responding to YOUR needs in this time of crisis. | We (the employees of these companies) have worked night and day to restore service to you, our customers. Most have called in independent contractors in order to expedite restoration of your service not even considering the expense of such measures. | Now for the kicker, many of US were without electricity, phone and cable ourselves. We were away from our families for the Holidays working for you. | As for myself, I was called to work early in the morning the day after Christmas (a company Holiday) and finally got to see the damage to my home and trees at 4:30 this afternoon. Today is the first time in a week that I have seen my children and wife for more than a few minutes per day. They think I'm a stranger, but Hey, I'm working for you! | Get real and get a grip folks. This is about ALL of us. Not just you!!!!!! | The next time you see a utility worker THANK him for his sacrifice instead of giving him a brow beating because you don't have service yet. | WE ARE DOING OUR BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bless you! Hats off to all those out working during our ice storms, etc. Hope you are getting some much needed rest and that soon our weather improves! My father-in-law worked for the REA for many years. He was injured during an ice storm when a pole fell with him. He often was sent to other areas of Texas to help when that area was hit by ice and we were spared. In times of crisis we have to do what we can for ourselves and decide what is important (my son works for a cable/internet company...they had many irate people at Christmas because the co. refused to send their servic tech. out on the ice and endanger their lives. This morning our water was running at a trinkle. We learned the city had many water main breaks so I grabbed one of my storage boxes I normally use for Christmas treasures and put it next to the toilet, then let the water trinkle until I could fill that box so we could flush our toilets. We keep bottled water for such emergencies and I have candles on hand at all times and have had to use them. We went a week in 1972 without running water when our pump froze (I melted snow to flush the toilet) and we burned a lot of wood in our two fireplaces trying to stay warm. I fear we have become too soft. I marvel at what our ancestors had to do each day just to have meals and raise their families. Doctors now tell women they can't travel in the later months of their pregancies....I have records of babies born on or soon after long trips from Tennessee to Texas or Alabama to Kentucky, etc. My husband worked for over 20 years delivering propane....driving on the ice at times....taking big chances. Today he drove on the ice to get to his job because he is the mgr at his site and his company expects him to be there...he nearly had an accident going to work this morning at 3am. Not sure his company appreciates him enough ;-/ Happy New Year! http://www.moongear.com/thebearypatch/ny7.htm -- Peggy <'}}}}>< Winton Family Homepage http://sites.netscape.net/mawpeggywilson/homepage
Hi guys. And Happy New Year. I don't recall anyone criticizing anyone on this list. Sometimes people just air out frustrations and they have a right to do that in our free America - just not really good on a genealogy list. I'm sure everyone appreciates everyone that has to work on the holidays - even though you do get paid for it. I hope things are getting back to normal for all you in OK and everywhere else where there is extreme weather. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Jefferson/515 Surname: Howard, Hill, Russell, Bell ------------------------- I am looking for the mother and father of Ida Howard Russell. My father Ray H. Russell was born in Terral Ok. in 1906. Ida his mother was on a trip from Tx. I think seeing her mother and father. The name of Ima Hill Howard or Ima Howard Hill was given to me as a possible relation. Ima was to have been a teacher in the publis school in Terral Ok. Jefferson co. I am looking for any commection to my grand mother Ida {Bell} Howard Russell. she was married to Jessie Carroll Russell of clay co Tx..
J. C., I had a teacher named Ima Hill Howard or Howard Hill in Terral in the early 60's. She was a substitute teacher and fascinated at least me with the stories of her youth. She had a limp due to injuries from a run away horse and buggy as a young girl. She is long dead and I don't know of any Howard's there now. I left there in the early 70's and don't get back much except to go to the cemetery and visit friends. All my family is now gone from Terral. Terral Public Schools might be of assistance if you feel she might be related as they should have records of her employment. Kim ----- Original Message ----- From: "J.C. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Jefferson/513 Surname: Brandon, Meador, Nall, Sevier ------------------------- This is copied and pasted from the OK Gen Web page: "From 1916 through to the present records, Vital Records are searched by name, by county, by date of birth. NOTE: Before 1947, all birth records are filed under the father's name." Did you supply OKC with the name of your grandfather? Also, IF your father was born at home, it is possible that his birth was never registered. If it is documentation you are needing and your father is no longer living, you can order a copy of his Social Security application.

I've been receiving these for about 3 weeks, but this was the first time I've been able to pinpoint where it was coming from - good thing email is slow today. See http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w95.hybris.gen.html for information on what to do and you will probably want to update your virus software and contact others that you email frequently, especially those that are new to computers.
