Hello Tami, I have no information on town/township named Blackburn but, if you haven't looked at it yet, the 1920 census may give you the info you need if your ancestor was in the county at that time. I do have a question that I am trying to figure out! My GGGUncle died in Jefferson County. His town was listed as Blackburn. But I don't find a Blackburn. Was there a township that was Blackburn in the 1920's? His name was Archibald N. Beaty or A.N. Beaty and died on June 2, 1925. His Doctor was from Ryan, OK. But I cannot find a Blackburn, OK in Jefferson County. I am trying so hard to get information on his family...and cannot find any. Coffman(July 17,1857-Feb.6,1920) buried in Addington Cemetery, Jefferson County, OK. They are my g.grandparents. The only thing I know is that Sarah was 1/2 Choctaw and had children: Melvin (my grandfather); George Dewey; and Elizabeth P. Coffman. I believe my father, John Harvey Coffman, son of Jessie Lee Ryle and Melvin Coffman, was born in Addington, OK Mar. 7, 1918. I need to know their birthplaces and family members. Can anyone look for obituaries and email me? What is Sarah's maiden name? What does J.A. stand for? Also any information on Mattie Hardwick married to (1)Whitmill Ryle and (2)Grant Campbell. I found them on the Addington, Jefferson Co., 1910 Census. They are also my g.grandparents. When did they move to Broken Bow, McCurtain County, OK where my father was raised? Anything at all anyone can tell me would help and would be greatly appreciated. Sandy Coffman Pratt

We have been trying for years to find the burial spots of two little baby boys, (twins). They were born in 1899 and died within a few days of their birth. It is said in the family that they were buried in Oklahoma, no county is known and it also said that a marked stone was place on their grave or graves before the family moved on with the last name of KELLETT on it. The only sister of these two little ones, a cousin of mine, died before she could locate these graves. I have taken up the torch. If you have seen such a grave I would love to hear from you. Posted on: Jefferson Co. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Jefferson/539 Surname: Chowning, Morton, Burke ------------------------- Dick, I visited the bank on my last trip to Waurika and was informed that only she or her secretary was allowed to view the Plot records and that the records were kept only in the name that purchased the plot and not who is buried there. I recently sent another letter to them requesting a search of more possible buyers of the plot ( no luck finding these either) and Ms. Barrick at the bank said if I do find her grave please let her know and she would reference it on her plot map and records. She was very helpful and even called the Dudley Funeral Home who showed that Melissa's husband, David Edgar Morton ( died in 1928) was buried in the old cemetery located there in Waurika on Hughway 81 (behind the hospital) but he had been moved to the new cemetery in 1931. I did find his grave and he is buried by his first wife, Anna MORTON on one side and his son, John Phillip MORTON and daughter-in-law Mary Ann PADDOCK- MORTON on the other side of him. You are probably right and she is in an unmarked grave somewhere near there. We have family photo's of family member's cleaning the grave sites and there was once a wrought iron fence and gate around the family grave plots that the Cemetery tore down. The photo says Melissa is buried there. Thanks for your help. janis in MS
Posted on: Jefferson Co. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Jefferson/536 Surname: Culp, Bright, West, Hagins ------------------------- Jefferson Co OK--The old Waurika Cem would I think have been in use from perhaps in the late 1800's into the early 1900's. I feel certain that it would not have been in use as late as the 30's. It may well be that your person was buried without a marker or that the marker hasn't endured. Last I knew, Margaret Ann Waid at the Farmers Nat'l. Bank in Waurika took care of the grave/deeds to the cem. She passed away very recently but you might try the Bank to see if they might be a help. The old map that showed the plot ownership was very faded and hard to read so they might be no help.
