Hi All, I am looking for help with research on my great-grandparents: J.A. & Myra Jane (Smith) WRIGHT. I know that they lived in Ryan, Jefferson County, OK, as that is where Myra Jane is buried. Her headstone indicates: b 13 Feb 1825 and d 16 Jan 1907, Beloved Wife of J.A. Wright. I have tried obtaining a death certificate from the State Vital Statistics but they have none. I am wondering if there was an obit published at the time of her death. How would I go about finding it? When and where is J.A. Wright buried? I could not find his grave when I visited Ryan, OK. What does the initials J. A. stand for? Any and all help appreciated! Thanks much! Linda in sunny California

I was so pleased to see this message! I've been researching the McManus's in Jefferson Co for a long time. I'm so glad you found me! I don't know of anyone else researching these folks. My Alice McManus married Elbert Martin Whatley. We are going to our Whatley cousins reunion this weekend at Lake Murray. It is just all the kid's, grand kid's, and great grand kid's of Elbert Seth Whatley, who was Alice's son. I would love to exchange information with you. My sister lives in Duncan. She and her husband both work at the hospital there. I live in a tiny town called Burneyville. We're about probably 60 miles from Duncan. Way down south on the Red River. I've never heard of your Ira McManus. Can you tell me how he fits in? I've got tons of information going back on the McManus's, but not much on Neil and Martha and their family. I also have a lot on the Gilchrist line. Please let me hear from you soon. If you will email me directly, I'll give you my mailing address, if you want it. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!! Thanks, Becky From: kathi <kati2@earthlink.net> Date: Monday, September 04, 2000 10:45 PM Hi Rebecca, I'm trying to find some information on my great grandfather Charles Dell Cooledge who lived and worked in Terral, Oklahoma in 1915. He was born in Oklahoma sometime around 1881. He fathered my mother on 2/12/1915 and at that time was a Oil Driller in Terral and had lived in Terral for approximately 15 years. I'm unsure if he and my great grandmother were actually married because I can find no records indicating that they were. My great grandmother's maiden name was Marie Ruth Tyler and in 1915 when she gave birth to my mother Florene Cooledge she was 18 years old and my great grandfather was approximately 34. I am interested in finding his grave site and any other information that I can on him. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Kathi kati2@earthlink.net

Posted on: Jefferson Co. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Jefferson/10559 Surname: McManus, Whatley ------------------------- Hoping to find my Jefferson Co. ancestors I went to look for this cem. Hey, I found it. So to you who have looked but can't find I'll do my best: Go approx 1 1/2 mi S of Hwy81/70 intersection. You will pass the stockyards then a house on the West side of the road. After passing the house you will come to a bridge (or at least guard rails). As you are passing the guard rails look to the East, there will be a BRIEF clearing through the hills. Look for a large Hackberry tree on top of the hill (it's larger than the rest), this is where the cem is. Go to the first entrance (locked gait) on the east side of the road past the guard rails. After climbing the gait (the owner doesn't mind as long as you don't smoke on his land, or trash it), walk directly NE about a 1/4 mi.(you cannot see the tree from here due to the hill)oh, and watch out for what the cow's left behind!! OK, so after you climb the gait, you will top one hill then go down into a little "bottom" (kinda soggy this spring) then it is on top of the next hill. You should be able to see it when you get to the bottom. I didn't find the names I was looking for but here are the legible ones: Quinney, Bridges, Lawson, Purcell, McBee, Hunt, Compton, Bowles, Clowdus?, Page, Sugg, Blackerby, Bullard, Dickson, Armstrong. There were about 10-20 sites with rocks for headstone/footstone. Email me with any questions, I wrote down the first names but no dates.
