I've not found them yet on the 1900 census. Orlando Jackson Gray's Porter inlaws moved to Love County, OK around 1890, give or take. They later branched out to Jefferson Co., OK. I descend through the Porters, and hadn't tracked Adie back to her birth family yet. Do you think you might have a great-something Aunt Adie?

Laurens and his family were in Jefferson County as soon as 1997 and left in 1999 without ever filing a claim on their indended site in Greer County. He had several children at the time and lost one, an 8 year old who burned to death, in Atlee. Another, age 3, was lost to fever on the way back to Atlee from Greer County. I surely would be grateful for any connections with Garlingtons' or other relatives who might have info. Thanks, Fred
I think I remember the store too. Just east of the curve by the park on the south side of the road? The post office was next door? My dad ( David Collins ) was a farmer / rancher / electrician and I know we visited there many times back in the late 50's and early 60's. Folks were all ways friendly and the pop was all ways cold. My e-mail is samc@redriverok.com Yes, I had a brother James, he was called Junior Cottrell in about the 5th grade, a sister Pansy in about the 7th grade and a sister Mary in the 12 grade. I can remember some moore's in school, if I remember there was one just a grade under me. There were two sets of Parkers there, one was a Supt. and the others teachers. A Dickey, and some I would remember if I heard their name. What was your maiden name? The old school house has been gone for several years. I just happened to be going by while they were tearing down the school and stopped & asked permission to have the first grade pencil sharpener and they let me have it, in which I still have. They still have a school reunion every 3 years in Waurika. I have attended some of them. I get a notice from them. I graduated from the Ryan High School but I have been in contact with several people that attended the Claypool. In fact a good friend from there called me last Aug. and asked if I would be a pollabearer for his mother, I told him yes, it would be an honor. Just remembered the girls name, Phyllis Moore. I have one or two school annuels some where. I live just outside of Durant, Okla. now, I still know a lot of the older generations down there. Thanks for the reply,

I do believe that there was a Cottrell girl in some of mother's high school classes. Did you have brothers and sisters at the school too? Thinking back again, it must have been 1943-44--I would have been in the 7th grade--believe that was the year there. The 7th and 8th grade classes were combined. We had a good teacher--a famer's wife, but can't remember her name. She had a little girl that my younger sister hung out with since they weren't old enough to be in school. Tried to respond to you directly, but the message bounced. Ellen

Hi Debbie--Yes there was a Rock Knob country school out from Waurika. Not sure what/where records were saved but you might contact Mary Ruth Brown, County Election Board, Jefferson Co Court House to see if she has any knowledge or suggesion of where you might go for information. I am sure that there a couple of Waurikans still around that went to that school--she might be helpful there. You also might contact Lorene Wood, 308 N. Elm, Waurika who might hae some knowledge of the school itself. . I did call the State Dept of Education nere in Okla. City and got no where! Good luck.
Can anyone help this researcher? She's not on the list so please email her direct. A cc to the list would be great if you're so inclined.
