My dad was barely 19 years old when he lined up at the border of Oklahoma Territory, to make the run for a parcel of land in the new frontier. He had a fine horse which was fast, and well ahead of most of the others. He traveled about 10 miles when tragedy struck. His trusty horse's front leg fell into a prairie dog hole breaking his leg. My dad quickly surveyed the dilemma he was in knowing the horse could not survive, all he could do now was to destroy his only mode of transportation. One well placed shot from his Smith and Wesson 38 cal. pistol, and he tried to make it on foot. That failed and he missed his chance. He settled in a small town if Calvin, I.T.(Indian Territory), and was a sharecrop farmer until he met his lifelong sweetheart and they were married in Redoak. They established a home in Calvin and he worked on a new railroad construction. By 1900 they had two of their 10 children. Esther Alma Moore who came from Mississippi was the joy of his life. Esther Swinhart and her sister Lula Moore Hardwick, helped establish, and were charter members of The First Baptist Church in Calvin, I.T. That's a partial run-down of some of the early days of Oklahoma. Melvin Swinhart {Number 7 of 10 children. > Is it necessary to live in Oklahoma to be an Archivist? A call for Archivists for the Oklahoma Archives Hello everyone. The Oklahoma Archives is in need of people to fill the position of archivists for several counties, and for parts of the Indian Nations/Territories. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/okfiles.htm Why do the archives exist? The archives fill a roll in the preservation of genealogical information on the web in that all archives submissions are permanent, the information will not leave or otherwise be removed irregardless of who the archivist may be at the time. In some cases, the information in the archives will be a duplicate of what is on a county site, and in other cases, it will be information not on a county site but that can be linked to it. Why duplicate? First, the majority of information in the archives is in text format. This has stood the test of time in that it can be read no matter what system or browser is being used, and will be there no matter what advances take place in the future. Second, so far the text format has proven to be unaffected by viruss that love to work on html formats. If you are interested in becoming an archivist for the Oklahoma Archives please e-mail bchada@tanet.net Bob Chada or tchada@mmcable.com Tammie Chada. If you are interested in becoming an archivist for the Indian Nation/Territories division of the Oklahoma Archives, please contact greyoaks@brightok.net Linda Simpson Also, if there is a particular county or area that you would like to work in but see that it is already taken, we will place you on a future contact list. Thanks. Bob and Tammie Chada, Oklahoma State Archivist Linda Simpson, Asst. State Archivist for the Indian Nations/Territory Division of the Oklahoma Archives.

This Morning I informed you of a concern we all should have regarding protecting ourselves against BADTRANS worm, computer virus.. I would like to ask you now if you have any additional comments regarding the subject, you send them to me personally. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please do not post the names of those you feel you have received infected postings from or their e-mail address. If you received an infected posting from a member of any of the lists I take care of, most likely I did too and I am taking care of it behind the scenes. I thank you for your help with this and appreciate your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members We are experiencing another outbreak of the BADTRANS worm, computer virus. I've received over 25 messages with it myself this weekend. The subject line will be varied but the infected attachments have a double extension, for example .doc.pif or .doc.scr You can go to http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/ or http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ to obtain more information. Please keep your anti virus software updated and DO NOT download unexpected attachments no matter who they are from or how tantalizing the subject line may be. "The Docs I Promised" just may be the virus. I apologize for breaking my own rule regarding Virus Warnings, but felt in this case it was important that you were aware. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
