    3. Unfortunately we don't have a look-up volunteer to check on burials at Hillubee Cemetery. We will be back to complete the census of that cemetery some time later this fall (when the weather is cooler and the snakes are too.) In the mean time I'd be interested in knowing about any look-up for hire business. 1. [OKHUGHES] Lost Cemetery found near Wetumpka
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, I see my posting regarding the lost cemetery found near Wetumpka is causing some confusion. I took the information regarding the cemetery from The Oklahoman, date June 17th 2002 after this article was brought to my attention by a list member. http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=875771&pic=none&TP=getarticle I also checked the Hughes County, OKGenWeb Project and saw that this cemetery is listed on it, but is not surveyed or are there photos of this Oklahoma treasure. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okhughes/hughcem.htm My call for help in surveying this cemetery and photographing its existence was and is because, I, as the many volunteers who desire to record and make available Oklahoma's history to our fellow researchers saw this need and asked for help. I have spoken with Linda Simpson the Oklahoma Coordinator of Saving Graves and she is also interested in the survey of this cemetery as well as Tammie and Bob Chada of the Oklahoma Survey and Virtual Cemetery website. I am sure the Hughes County Archivist would also like to obtain this data for the Hughes County Oklahoma USGenWeb Archives Project, as well as the Hughes County Oklahoma AHGP Project and the Hughes County OKGenWeb Project. I feel that each of the above sites have one goal in mind and that is to share the wealth of Oklahoma genealogical data with anyone who desires it. As far as I am concern, it does not matter if there is a duplication ... the sin would be if no one had the data. 2. Bob & Mary Anne Denney
    3. My husband and I "explored" this cemetery about 14 years ago looking for his great-grandfather Denney who is supposedly buried "near Wetumka". At that time it was severely overgrown and had more frogs hopping around and in it than I had ever seen in my life. Since I had on sandals, my husband waded in to look for information. He reported not seeing any identifiable names on anything. I later contacted a firm somewhere in OK who will search cemeteries for a fee and their report said there were a few stones with the name Barnett and no names left on any of the stones and the cemetery was in terrible dis-repair. I don't know if I still have the photos they sent, but there were a few above ground level graves made from some kind of red bricks. Hope someone has abetter luck than we did!!! Mary Anne Denney

    3. This cemetery has been listed on the Hughes County site for some time. It was canvassed in about 1979, I'm not real sure of that date by Fran Cook. At this time, I do not have the list of those buried there but I'll be happy to check on it. I hope to have it online soon. Vickie Neill Taylor flip@okplus.com

    1. [OKHUGHES] From List Mom - New Mailing List - The Buffalo Hunters
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, I know this list will effect only a few of you, but thought I would let you know of it beginning. The Buffalo-Hunters Mailing list was approved yesterday and now is ready to subscribe to. If you have ancestors who were Buffalo Hunters and or are interested in their history, this list will be the place to learn about the Buffalo Hunters of the Old West. I had two great uncles who were hired by the U.S. Government as Buffalo Hunters. Living in 2002 I know what they did caused starvation to a group of people, waste and the near annihilation of a species. Of this I am not proud, but what they did is a part of the history of this country and I am proud of them for doing what they thought was right at that time. To join, send only the word SUBSCRIBE to BUFFALO-HUNTERS-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM I look forward to the Buffalo-Hunters Mailing List becoming another tool for each of us to understand the world out ancestors lived in. 1. [OKHUGHES] Some 1910 Hughes County Census online
    2. Ron Long
    3. Hi list, A part of the 1910 Hughes County Census is now accessible from the McIntosh County GenWeb page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmcinto/Census/1910.html or directly at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmcinto/Census/1910/han105.txt and http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmcinto/Census/1910/han105i.txt These two parts comprise ED 105, which was Township 9 North Range 13 East, and became part of McIntosh County before the 1920 census. The census is very difficult to read, and I'm not familiar with the names in that area. So I'd appreciate any help making corrections that I can get. If you have ancestors in that area please let me know if I goofed up on their names. I'm working on ED 106 now, and it should be completed in a week or so. This ED comprises Twp 7 and 8 of Range 12 (which stayed in Hughes county) and that part of Township 8 North Range 13 East north of the river (which became part of McIntosh County). I'll post a notice to this list when it is completed, hoping to get help proofing that part too. 2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; during this time, please don't post "why am I not getting mail"....you will get your mail when the system comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Kathleen Burnett List Mom
