He was born in 1847 in Kentucky and moved to Indian Territory about 1870 where he was employed by the Indian Agent at Fort Sill, served as scout under General Ranald MacKenzie during the Red River War of 1874-1875, deputy U.S. marshal out of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Chief of Indian Police at Wichita Agency at Anadarko, and finally a rancher and banker.
