I agree that they probably knew each other and had to taken on nicknames to tell them apart. If the nickname was related to where they were located then my William would have come from the Bittercreek, Altus/Martha area in the old Greer Co, I.T. In the 1880s this was a OK/ TX disputed area and was considered part of Texas. I will have to start looking at Texas records prior to 1900. Early children were b MO and Chickasha,OK. Later children were b Kiowa Co. Tis always a Mystery! Bob Smith

I was wondering if there were any ancestors. I'll bet the 3 William Williams knew each other. Mine got all over the place back in the last 1800s. He was known as Caddo Bill as he'd thought Verden was in the Caddo Nation instead of the Chickasaw Nation and that is where he settled. Best, Sandi

According to a bio by an old relative there were 3 William Williams in the Chix area in the Indian Territory days. Each has a nickname to tell them apart. by where they lived: Hell Roaring Creek Bill Williams Caddo Bill Williams - mine Bitter Creek Bill Williams Sandi

My Williams was William Garrard "Caddo Bill" Williams from Clay CO, KY. He lived in Minco and Verden. His sister, Mary Jane [Williams] Maupin, was my GG grandma. Sandi =)
