As an alumni of Minco and staff of the Minco Historical Society, I can't thank you enough for posting this picture. It's of excellent quality and of a large, and thus high resolution, file size. Thank you!!! We're severely lacking pictures from the 1930s period. Do you have any more pictures of Minco school or the town of Minco, whether candid or formal? The school doesn't even even have sr class pictures of 1932 thru 1937. For details, see http://www.minco-ok.com Contact: [email protected]

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.grady/1721.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: ....for all of you who are searching for something in a newspaper from Grady County, at the bottom I will place the link since they've changed the format here (why they changed the format is beyond me). Once you get to the link, scroll down the page to where you see the words "Newspaper on Microfilm." Once you are there, click on it. It will then take you to a gray page which gives you some choices. Click on the "Newspaper Collection Database." Another screen will appear & then click on "search for record." Here is where you will place the name of the town, county, and so forth. Recommendation: don't place any dates in this area. All papers for that town, will appear. If that doesn't work, then just type in the county & all newspapers ever printed will show up. You may have to look up your article by the county seat or the town closest to where you are searching. I hope this helps someone out with their research. BIF, you can then order one of these films thru your nearest LDS center. Good luck... Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division http://www.okhistory.org/res/ResDiv.html

My mother's wedding announcement was published in the 1920's in the Alex paper. Try the Chickasha Express, published in Chickasha, OK. It is the county seat. There used to be a paper called the Chickasha Star that was a weekly paper and, often, much of the Alex information was published in it; however it went out of business probably in the 1970's. Alex business community is practically a ghost town with only a store and a post office remaining; however, there is a nursing home, several family homes, and Alex School. I grew up in Alex but the last time I was there is was so sad I will never return. Have you tried the Alex Cemetery? Bradley Cemetery? Vaughn Cemetery? Ninnekah Cemetery? Lindsey Cemetery? These were little communities around Alex, pronounced "Elick".There may be others, but these are the ones that come to mind. There is also Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha. I believe it is online for lookups. Forest Lawn, I think is the new cemetery, but it wouldn't have been open in 1910.

    2. Hi Sandi, Yes it has been a long time, it seems. Great to hear from you again. Oh my, yes, I'd love to have more pictures of the Bonebrake/Bonebreak Hardware, the family, and anything else she has about early Minco. I like photo scans to be very large file sizes, as they enable viewing of latent detail when zooming in, particularly if the camera was on a tripod when the picture was taken. In our researches of Minco's history, we've been recovering some exciting finds, such as photos that have nailed down exactly where some of the earliest businesses were located, including the southern colonel's famed Hopkins Hotel (alias the "Bloody Bucket Hotel"), which was first set up in a tent.
