When he entered service he gave Grady County Oklahoma as his home of record. Soldier: LOREN DICKERSON SMITH Born: October 28, 1927 Date of loss: August 26, 1951. KIA When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 45 families in Oklahoma that have not been located. There is one family from Grady County that has not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. Grady County Clerk Sharon Shoemake advises that the publication of Grady County land data and images are now online. "Publishing this information online will provide a much faster and more convenient means of performing research through land record books," she said. Shoemake said Grady County land record information may be accessed by such criteria as Grantor, Grantee, book and page, instrument type and legal description. Records available in the online county index span from January, 1989 to the present, and images of the documents are available from May 3, 2003 to the present. "The number of images published by Grady County exceeds 230,000 from 2004 and is continually expanding," said Shoemake. "These record-search capabilities make this service beneficial to a broad field of users and can be accessed at no charge." The Grady County Clerk's office is among the first to publish land records online in Oklahoma. Shoemake added that the county clerk's office has three public computers dedicated to land record searches and they are in the process of obtaining four more. Documentation of land records generates 10 books each month, each containing 600 pages. This volume of books is causing the county clerk's office to run out of storage space. Chickasha, I.T., Oct.5 - The tragic death of one of Chickasha's most popular young ladies last night by the accidental discharge of a revolver has cast a gloom over the city. Ira Noyes, night ticket agent for the Rock Island at Chickasha, called on Miss Robbie Largent at her home last night, taking a revolver from his pocket as he sat down and laying it beside him on the porch while he chatted with the young lady. On rising to leave Noyes and Miss Largent became engaged in a friendly struggle for the posession of the pistol. Suddenly it was discharged, the ball entering Miss Largent's left eye, ranging upward and coming out at the top of her head. Notwithstanding the fearful nature of her injury she lived until 5 p.m. today. Miss Largent was widely known and very prominent in the social circles of this town. Young Noyes is nearly crazed over the affair and his friends fear he may attempt his own life. He is being constantly watched to prevent anything of that nature. ***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation*** Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
