I know they were there, all the children were born between 1901-1916 in and around Chickasha. There are 2 children buried in the cemetery in Rush Springs there that died in infancy. I have found other family members but not my great grandparents. Any suggestions?

Go to your internet search and type in the above. then 'Counties', then 'County List', then 'Grady county' then 'Cemeteries' . James is buried there and I will see if I can find the obit for you but I don't see where his father is buried. Since it states that William is the founder of Verden, I am surprised he is not buried in that cemetery.

He was born in 1847 in Kentucky and moved to Indian Territory about 1870 where he was employed by the Indian Agent at Fort Sill, served as scout under General Ranald MacKenzie during the Red River War of 1874-1875, deputy U.S. marshal out of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Chief of Indian Police at Wichita Agency at Anadarko, and finally a rancher and banker. I would be particularly interested in any stories locals may have on this man and would love to meet someone who actually knew him. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely Diron L. He was a farmer and rancher. Rufus moved to the Meridian Community in 1941, where he lived the rest of his life. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters..." Take a look at your Oklahoma History, the state was divided into Oklahoma Territory [mostly on the east side of the state] and Indian Territory [mostly the western side of the state]. My grandparents were married in Indian Territory in 1899 and their first son born in Indian Territory in 1901. You did not have to be a Native American to be living in Indian Territory. 1880 would be during the time when some of the land rushes were already being started. LaDonna Hinch

I know that my GGGreat Auntie was buried in Friendship Cemetary in Grady County, her name was Electra Catherine Jane Wilsie nee Chesnutt and she was married to Issac Sears Wilsie-they had most of their children on Indian Territory. It seems to me that people back in the 1880-today would not move to Indian Territory unless having some Native blood.
