It was run by the Sisters of St. Francis, and one of the nuns there was Sister Anthony. She taught my father in the 1920's, and was my first grade teacher in the early 50's. She is listed on the 1930 census at St. Joseph's.

It was not only a school, but a convent as well. It was a boarding school in the early years. The school is no longer there. It was sold to Jane Brooks School for the Deaf sometime after about 1970, I believe. Eventually the old red brick building was demolished. I am looking for a picture of it dated around 1925 or later. I have one that is dated 1910, but it is a large two story wooden building at that time.

Susie is the one burned and the one I'm asking for an Obit for. Did I offend the list in asking for the Obit and answering questions ask of me. If so I've very sorry, cause that wasn't my intention. Not sure but that may be John Roy Stover, born in Grady County, who is mother brother and my reason for doing the STOVER genealogy. When he and I started we didn't have much info., now we can go back a few generations. I found Susie's husband and three children in the 1920 Grady County Census which makes me want to know more about Susie. The little story I told about the fire was told to mother by her father and mother passed it down to me. I have Susie's Death Certificate and it says death by way of Burns. Yes I got the file. Guess I'm getting forgetful as well. I thought I sent you an email message telling you so. I'm very sorry if I didn't. My grandmother was pregnant with mother when Great Aunt Susie tried to light the wood stove for cooking with coal oil. It explodes and caught Susie's dress on fire. It is said Susie started running scared, her husband was chasing her with two buckets of milk to put her out. Grandmother blamed mother for not being able to run and help. It's a shame they didn't think back then of STOP, DROP, and ROLL.
