    1. [OKGEN ] HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR SOMEONE ??
    2. Dear List.........I have just received from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Archives Division a very full packet re: Confederate Pension Application and extensive documentation for one JOHN H. CANTWELL in ANNIE ELIZA CANTWELL'S pursuit of a Widow's Pension. I was hoping for my great grandfather,' WILLIAM BLUFORD CANTWELL'S Pension information His wife was named JANE ELIZABETH (ANNIE) CANTWELL.........hence......I suspect the mix-up. I wish this was mine as there is wonderful documentation is support of this application. There is over 20 pages of information, testimonials, letters and such. The widow in these papers was living in Vinita, Craig County, OK in 1920 when she applied for the pension. Mr. CANTWELL was a Confederate soldier who enlisted in 1861 in Hancock County, Tenn. in "D" Company, 19th Tenn. Inf. Regiment as a Private under General JOSEPH E. JOHNSON. and SIDNEY JOHNSON. What makes this fascinating (even though these aren't my relations) is that the above John H. CANTWELL had the same name of another John H. CANTWELL who served as a Corporal in the 29th Tenn. Inf. Reg. and was a deserter. Much of the correspondence has to do with all the work this family had to go to sort out the two men with similar names and then to find someone who knew Pvt. CANTWELL and be able to vouch for the fact that he was both in the Confederacy as stated and that he did not desert. Fortunately, they found a boyhood friend who enlisted at the same time ( ELIJAH WOLFE) and were able to clear the pension. The Red Cross, the Pension Board, a Congressman, a lawyer and others all worked on this widow's behalf. I sure wish this had been my CANTWELL ancestor........but maybe someone on the OK list will recognize this family, as I'd love to send these documents to them. Please let me know if this rings a bell.............Sharyn CANTWELL Baker
