Don't tell Sharon MC, it's a surprise! I have found her some Hughes Co., OK. kinfolk. She doesn't know it yet though. Some times, it ain't what you know but WHO you know. Sharon had this family in Osage Co. William Lincoln and Sara Rosaline (KEEL) FRIEND moved to Lamar, Hughes Co., Ok. in 1918 along with their children, 9 possibly 10 kids grew up in the Lamar area. It looks like the names of the children were Ollie HUNES, Lennie MURHIED, Walter FRIEND, Roy FRIEND, Arthor FRIEND, Stella STOKES, Nellie SMITH, Herbert Lee FRIEND, infant daughter, and possibly another son. Some of these names may not be spelled right but this is what Mrs. FRIEND gave me. I expect to find Herbert FRIEND buried in the Holdenville Cemetery. I'll try to take a look for him there on my next trip over. If I see him, I'll let you know. Some how that doesn't sound right does it! I had gone to the museum yesterday to do some lookups and the first paper I went to for an obit just happened to have a story about Herbert FRIEND. How do you like them apples! Here's the story: >From the Holdenville Daily Times Aug. 4, 1957 pg. 1 FRIEND Is Named Drive Chairman Herbert FRIEND, Holdenville, has been appointed Chairman of the 1958 Red Cross Fund Drive, it was announced Saturday by R. B. KNIGHT, Chairman of the Red Cross Fund-planning committee. Bill LEWIS, Wetumka banker, has been named co-chairman. FRIEND is Hughes County Superintendent of Schools. The county fund drive for 1958 will be held in March, and will be all the county outside Holdenville's share, KNIGHT said, Holdenville's share of the funds are raised in the Annual Community Chest drive. Happy Tuesday, Sharon McAlester! Vickie Neill Taylor flip@okplus.com
