www.chattanoogan.com Phipps, Opal posted April 3, 2003 Opal Marie Phipps, 89, of Chattanooga, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in a local health care facility. She was a native of Hess, Okla., but had lived in the Chattanooga area since 1989 and had moved from Cocoa, Fla. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and its Quilters Club. She was retired from the Brevard County, Fla., School System after many years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ocil W. Phipps; daughter, Carolyn Hayes; brother, Robert Homer White; sister, Stella Muse. She is survived by one son, Malcolm Phipps, Chattanooga; seven grandsons, Charles Phipps, Hixson, Kevin Hayes, Springfield, Mo., Brian Hayes, Maine, Darrell and Eric Hayes, Staten Island, N.Y., Earl Allanson, Roanoke, Va., Merle Allanson, Cassadaga, Fla.; two granddaughters, Donna Dickson and Arlene Phipps, both of Atlanta; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Highway 58 chapel with the Rev. Bob Stitts officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home, 3913 Webb Road, 894-2012.
