    3. Gene You've got to quit assuming that either people aren't Okie's or their City Folk or some other such noncence (sp)....As I stated...my dad was born & raised in Okla. Chelsea to be specific...but his mom or grandparents (grandma mainly) didn't always refer to a location or old Homestead as "somebody's" Place. He grew up in the late 40's on (born '43) and they didn't mention places like this & yes they lived in the country & yes his mom & grandma were raised on farm's owned, rented or sharecropped. Some people talked & still talk like that........some don't. Alli > > Then you was probably a city girl. 3. Alli, Gene's right. I've never been to OK ( would love to go) but...I've seen it many times where a place or an old homestead is known by a name from the past. Another person that could verify this as a true thing is Dennis - both Dennis and Gene really know OK and share their knowledge freely. I didn't think Gene was even responding to your email when he stated this. I think his informative reply was to someone else that also lives there. 3. Oh I never said he was wrong..........never hinted & never would. Refering to an old owner or whatever as "their" place makes a lot of sense for Reference.....as I said...I had a great Uncle or great grandparents that raised Turkey's up in Kansas (somewhere near the Ok/Ks border) & when you asked directions to their place, if you mentioned they had a Turkey Farm....Who ever you'd ask would OH your looking for the Turkey Farm Road & proceed to give you directions. When I asked if anyone heard of Nap's place, it didn't dawn on me that it would be a reference to an old Homestead. Grandma was usually a little more specific when talking about a place, but in her story she told it how she remembered it/what she remembered it by. BTW: You'll LOVE Okla.......I've only been to Chelsea, Tulsa, Nowata, Stillwater, Vinita, Claremore & one or 2 other towns in that area. As that is where my dad's family (both sides) lived & I loved it. Always swore that I'd move to Chelsea as that's where my dad was raised & grandma lived (until she died..but she died in Nowata with her daughter). Its changed a great deal since I was back there in '83.......but it will always be home to me. Alli :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca York" <[email protected]> > Gene's right. 3. I am a Okie and proud of it, but was raised in the Sunshine State. My folks always talked about some ones Homestead or farm by their names. I thought it was interesting, as you learn of lot of names of people who lived in the area you were born in and some of your ancestors lived and died. The towns were, Binger, Eakley, Oney, and Anadarko which is in Caddo County [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alli" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 02, 2003 2:48 PM Subject: Re: [OKGEN ] Need an old Okie history buff > Gene > You've got to quit assuming that either people aren't Okie's or their City > Folk or some other such noncence (sp)....As I stated...my dad was born & > raised in Okla. It's called, for lack of a better terminology, (conservative attitudes and understanding communications). Your attack back was just as unnecessary as others references ... including my own comments at this moment. "Talk is cheap and some people don't have cheap talk to even talk about." SCB Meandering in Minnesota Meadows ... and, they don't call them Meadows up here in Minnesota any more than they do in Oklahoma but the reference is very understandable for all reading this notation. Pastures, Fields, Prairies, Glens ... their all the same if spoken and placed correctly.

    3. I wasn't attacking anyone Shelia.........I simply stated that to say someone isn't an Okie or is a city girl because they weren't raised the same is some, is an assumption that shouldn't be made. Alli :) Your attack back was just as unnecessary as others references
