OKLAHOMA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY NEWS RELEASE OKLAHOMA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING FEBRUARY 3, 2003 Jim Slade will speak on "Land Records--How to Find Them at the Courthouse and On-line" for the Monday, February 3, 2003 meeting of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society. His slide presentation will discuss various types of land records, explain how to find the documents themselves and then demonstrate how to locate the actual parcel of land it describes. Jim Slade is a Professional Civil Engineer and holds Land Surveyor Registration No. 4 in the State of Oklahoma. He is a native Oklahoman who has been researching family history since 1975. Jim lectures frequently at National Genealogical Conferences and has been published in several national genealogical magazines. Since retiring, Jim and his wife Jennie have lectured about genealogy aboard several cruise ships. Jim is past Chairman of the National Genealogical Society Computer Interest Group and is currently on the NGS/GENTECH Advisory Council. He serves on the Board of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society. The meeting will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wiley Post Historical Building, 2100 North Lincoln, Oklahoma City, OK. Although the Oklahoma Historical Society will close its Archives, Research Library and Newspaper reading rooms to the walk-in public during February to consolidate its research facilities, the building will be open. The OGS meeting is open to the public and is free of cost. Volunteers will be on hand at 5:00 p.m. to assist researchers who need help to start the search for family history or need suggestions about where to look next.
