    2. Thank you for catching that for me! I must have been too excited to think properly (shaking head at self)! It does not list the father's race, only his name. Also I thought I knew for sure that Frank had been born in Tenn, because we have a census record saying he was, but a friend pointed out to me yesterday after I sent my second e-mail to you, that we also have a later census saying Frank was born in IT. So, now we are back to only his name and that in 1894 he was in IT,because Mary was there. I have a court record that has her with her family in 1892 and a marriage licence for her in 1898 and a newspaper article mentioning her death in 1898, all are in IT. It makes me believe she never left the area before she died. Her second husband was "of color." I'm just going on family verbal history, which up to this point has been very accurate, and it says he was American Indian. I am going to try those web sites you sent, but right now I have to help my daughter get ready for school. Thank you again very much !!!! 3. Hey, Patty Give the information again. You did say that Frank was black in the first post. If you have Heritage Quest, you put in 'indian' in place of the surname. Then it will bring up a bunch of native americans. There also is a lot of information on www.accessgenealogy.com. Just don't let it take you to Ancestry.com unless you want to go there. Use the other links. http://www.censusfinder.com/oklahoma2.htm has the native american census for Okla. Just pick which year and where you think he might be. The last two sites are free. Good luck. 2. Thank you for that information. I don't remember exactly what I posted in my inquiry. Did I mention that Frank was (according to the family's "verbal records") American Indian? 3. Dear Patty - Looking for >Frank Burton for the year 1894.< Unless the marriage was performed on Indian Territory by an Indian priest, even then, records were not kept regularly and the chances of finding a marriage documentation is rare for any ethnic blends or mixes. Even Indian to a white person was rarely recorded. If a listing is given that they're living together as a husband and wife such as a Fed Census, their union was probably courtesy of NO ceremony. The understanding through common-law was accepted that they're married, with NO benefit of a legal certificate or documentation. It's a sad situation but all so true. I have to accept in my own family, having little if none over documentation and even then, with what I do have, it's vague ... to say the least, doesn't verify much. Good Luck, I'm interested in what or if anything pops up for you in your hunt. Please keep us posted if something breaks through? Shelia C. 1. Funding of the NEW Historical Library and Museum
    2. Dittmar, Frederick M.
    3. Fellow Oklahoma Genealogists, Last week we mailed out the message reprinted below. Thanks to your good response the leadership is now looking at the issue of FULL FUNDING for the Oklahoma History Center, but the money is not yet there, especially in the House. Now would be a very good time to reinforce last week's show of interest. If you called last week, please write an email or letter this week to add emphasis. If you wrote last week, please call this week. If you have not done either, please take the time today to contact our elected leaders to tell them how important the Oklahoma History Center funding is. The decisions about money issues are being made this week. We especially need voters from Tulsa, Sand Springs and Sapulpa and Creek and Tulsa Counties to contact Speaker Todd Hiett and Representative Chris Benge. If you know anyone who lives in those areas, please ask them to contact these gentlemen in support of the Oklahoma History Center. Senator Morgan is from Stillwater and represents Payne, Logan and Lincoln counties and Senator Crutchfield is from Ardmore and represents Carter, Love, Garvin and Murray counties. Any contact from folks in those areas would also help. Thanks for your help. Let's get this done! Billie Fogarty, President Oklahoma Genealogical Society Reprint of last week's notice: We need your help! Despite strong support in both the House and Senate for funding operations at the Oklahoma History Center, there is a chance that the Historical Society's budget request may be cut by $615,000. All of this cut would come from staffing needs to open the building as planned and then maintain a seven-day-a-week schedule. If the funding is not provided, the opening may be delayed and the schedule could be cut to five days a week. You can help now by calling the leadership of the House and Senate and expressing your desire that the Oklahoma History Center receive FULL FUNDING. You may also email these gentlemen. There will not be time for the US mail service to reach these leaders before the decisions are made. Please take the time to contact these 4 elected leaders. Senator Mike Morgan, President Pro Tempore phone 524-0126 or 521-5565 email bard@oksenate.gov Senator Johnnie Crutchfield, Chairman of Senate Appropriations Committee phone 524-0126 or 521-5607 email bigger@oksenate.gov Representative Todd Hiett, Speaker of the House phone 521-2711 or 557-7353 email toddhiett@okhouse.gov Representative Chris Benge, Chairman of House Appropriations Committee phone 521-2711 or 557-7340 email chrisbenge@okhouse.gov (Your own Senator and Representative can be found at the Oklahoma Legislature website: http://www.lsb.state.ok.us/ if you wish to notify them, although the decisions will most likely be made in subcommittees by leadership.) It is difficult for our elected representatives to know how important the Research Library is to us unless we tell them. They do not realize that librarians and staff are required for the facility to remain open and accessible to Oklahoma researchers. Thank you for taking the time to educate them and for being exceptionally polite in the process! 1. Looking for...
    2. I am looking for any records on Frank Burton for the year 1894. He was a black man who had a child with a white woman named Mary Headley. I hope there will be a marriage record for them. I have found an indirect reference to Mary in 1892 in Wybark Oklahoma. The child was born in 1894 in Indian Territory. I would also like to find a record of this birth of any kind. Any and all help finding this couple would be wonderful! Patty
